I can see that brachioplasty is in my future , mismatched arms

Recommended Posts

The truth is I am only 6 weeks out on Monday but from the start of my process and now the sleeve I have already lost 65 lbs. I am an older lady and I can already tell that my arms are gonna look like crap on a cracker. Since these are harder to hide in the summer in Texas the arms will probably be the first things I attend to down the road. One odd thing I have noticed about myself and I noticed it before surgery is that my left arm is heavier and fatter than my right arm, to me its an obvious difference. I have a couple questions I would like to ask from some of the Plastics veterans.

1. Do I need to wait until I have reached all of my goals to have brachioplasty?

2. Since I only plan on doing this procedure, what can I expect to pay for just this surgery?

3. Do any of you know any surgeons local to San Antonio or Austin that have great feedback on this type of thing.

Any suggestion and info is always appreciated.

1. Do I need to wait until I have reached all of my goals to have brachioplasty?

Technically no, but if you aren't within 15% of goal when you have plastics done you're wasting your money. The goal is to be able to cut off all the extra skin and to suck out a little extra fat, but when you're not at goal yet, the fat can't quite get sucked out as much and the skin you're cutting off will ultimately just end up saggy again when you lose weight. I had a brachioplasty and loved the results, but I waited until I was close to goal for all of my procedures because otherwise it's mostly pointless.

2. Since I only plan on doing this procedure, what can I expect to pay for just this surgery?

I paid $8K.

3. Do any of you know any surgeons local to San Antonio or Austin that have great feedback on this type of thing.

Nope, but shop around. I really liked my plastic surgeon and while initially I only wanted new boobs, I ended up with all kinds of stuff done because he was very good and he was very nice. When you're ready for plastics, it will be a very fun time.

I haven't had plastics. But I had one consultation with a top plastics MD in my area who does many plastic surgeries on both bariatric and non-bariatric patients.

He said he will operate on bariatric patients ONLY AFTER they have maintained stably their weight loss. He said the body continues to change after weight loss, and he wants all those changes to be over before he cuts anything.

Certainly, some people have plastics before that. I've also heard of some plastic surgeons who require an 18-month period of stable weight maintenance before surgery.

The recommendation is to maintain your weight for about 12 months prior to any skin removal surgery to allow the chance for your skin to bounce back on its own as much as possible.

Haven't had my arms done...maybe next year. I just had a TT 2 months ago and not thrilled with the results but of course it's a little better. BUT, I had a boob lift done 3 years ago and my boobs were totally mismatched!!! They removed 150 grams of tissue from one, and 9 from the other to get them to match! So it happens....who knows why. I did have a consultation for the arm surgery and it was only 4500 Euros (about $5000 USD) here in the Netherlands. But like the others said, you need to wait. Good luck

I'm scheduled to have my brachioplasty next Thursday 4/21 along with a breast lift and removing the side fat where my bra strap lays.

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.

Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
