Angela4357 2 Posted April 8, 2016 The only thing holding me back is fear and money. How do you get over those humps? Sent from my SM-G900V using the BariatricPal App
2goldengirl 2,076 Posted April 8, 2016 Well, fear of what, exactly? As to the $, I'm fortunate - my out-of-pocket was $0. Other people here have saved, gotten 0% credit cards, worked overtime, and gotten surgery in Mexico. If you could be a little more specific with your concerns and situation, it may be easier to reply to your specific concerns.

Angela4357 2 Posted April 8, 2016 Sorry i have fear of complications, blood clots, regret after surgery, failing, what I will look like after, not being able to eat anything,my hair falling out, having stomach issues. I'm lucky that my insurance covers all but my $5k deductible. That is still $5k. Plus nessary Vitamins and shakes that I know r expensive. It just sucks to finally get this close and to have to stop again. Sent from my SM-G900V using the BariatricPal App
eclecticwingtips 130 Posted April 8, 2016 (edited) Think about how much you spend on take out or junk food now. Also calculate the cost of medications for high blood pressure, high blood sugar and other meds which may not be needed after surgery. Then think about the other deductibles you might have to spend in the next 10 years for knee ops or heart surgery or a ton of other obesity related health issues. By now that $5k shouldnt look so bad. Ive been saving for a year for my surgery and this helped me keep on track of saving for it Sent from my SM-T350 using Tapatalk Edited April 8, 2016 by eclecticwingtips
Valentina 2,642 Posted April 8, 2016 Start saving for the deductible and at the same time, start seeing a therapist about your fears. Right now, it doesn't sound like you're ready for what very well might be the most life changing journey of your life. As far as the post op meds and Vitamins, ask your surgeon to write RX for medical strength meds/vitamins. That way you will only have to pay your co pay. Fear can be paralyzing. Work on yourself before you allow a surgeon to do so. Please. Prayers going up for you.
Bufflehead 6,358 Posted April 8, 2016 Your BMI is 56, you have a much, much greater risk of death and all sorts of health complications if you don't get weight loss surgery than if you do. Staying super morbidly obese should be at the very top of your list of things to be afraid of. As far as what you will look like post op: you will look much better after you get this surgery and lose a lot of weight even if every hair you own falls out and you end up wearing wigs for the rest of your life. Think about how you will look five years from now if you keep gaining weight (most of us do). I think you are focusing a lot on possible negatives with surgery but not really considering the serious negatives of *not* getting surgery. http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/15319713
