Surgery on April 11th, cheated on liquid fast last night.

Recommended Posts

Hey guys! I'm going into surgery for the sleeve in 3 days. I am excited but a little down about how I couldn't get through the whole 2 week liquid fast without finally breaking. I started the fast 2 days early due to some weight goals before surgery, and since have ate 3 times total. The meals were always healthy, usually fish based.

I guess what I am wondering is, should I be worried about anything? Are they going to make me weigh in again the day of surgery? The reason I ask is because I lost 32 pounds and am now right on the limit of where I can have the surgery at hospital (must be below 55 bmi). My weight has halted and floats around 337-344 depending on how hydrated I am. I needed to be under 340 for all the weigh-ins, which I was. I'm worried that I might have to watch my Water intake the day before surgery to make sure I am at weight like I did for previous weigh ins, but I do not want to be dehydrated for surgery. 1 million thoughts a minute leading up to surgery

Hey Sanjumelts,

Well I'm having surgery on the 14th and yes it's been a struggle.

I started off doing 2 shakes and 1 meal a day with plenty of Water.

My 1 meal is veggies and a lean piece of meat. That's been working out fine for me.. Don't beat yourself up. Drink plenty of Water and try to walk a little if you can the last few pounds will come off. The objective is not to eat fatty foods in order to shrink the liver.. So just get back on the wagon and keep it moving.. My God be with you!

My surgery is scheduled for April 14 also. My surgeon requires a 10 day liquid diet to shrink the liver. I have been curious as to why different surgeons require different pre op diets. Today puts me on day 5 and all I can think about it cheating. I've done extremely well up to this point. Although I have had a can of well drained chicken and a dill pickle spear for dinner twice this week. I have also had a few strawberries or blueberries in the AM's with my Protein shake just for a little bit of CHEW. I am 6 days from surgery but I am wondering if I will put myself in danger if I do have a decent meal, but still very healthy. Keep in mind that I have been eating a low carb/high Protein diet for the past month and have a current bmi of 35.5. Any thoughts/suggestions?

I have never understood the differences in pre either. All I would say is what everyone else would probably say, follow the surgeons instructions. That being said, it is much easier said than done (ehm ehm original post). If you were to have a meal, I would keep it simple and based around something you really enjoy. While I know I should not have cheated, a healthy meal here and there definitely helped with cravings for unhealthy things. Make sure the meal is 72 hrs before surgery to insure that it has exited the building before surgery date. If you have been losing weight, your liver has also been shrinking. A meal will not reverse this.

Follow the surgeons instructions, shrink that liver.

Had the sleeve in February. My doctor said the guidelines changed regarding the preoperative diet. You can now have 3oz of lean meat once a day and 2 cups of raw vegetables or 1cup of cooked vegetables per meal. This still includes a mostly liquid diet. The goal is to shrink your liver.

It sounds like what your having is pretty much what my dietician recommends in pre op.

I am on two shakes and one meal per day. Meal is small serve lean protein and vegetables from a 'free' list. ..excludes starchy and high carb veges but cucunber tomatoes, broccoli, green Beans...all allowed in good volumes to make up for Fiber.

Its sugary and flour based Snacks that you must avoid. Dont beat yourself up. You're doing well!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.
