Hello all,

I am doing my second go at weight loss surgery. You can see what happened at the first attempt here: http://www.bariatricpal.com/topic/355098-surgery-aborted-please-help/.

So I had my sleep study this week and apparently I never hit the parameters for having the CPAP machine put on me in the middle of the night. Will that likely mean I would need a CPAP machine? Or will I be able to go forward without? Dr won't get the results till next week at some point. Interested in your feedback!!

Thanks!

It depends on how the orders for the study itself were written. I was so convinced that I didn't hae sleep apnea that my sleep study wasn't written to have a CPAP titration.

Turns out I DO have sleep apnea after all. I was quite surprised. I'm afraid you'll just have to wait for your results.

It was written for a split night study with CPAP study if indicated.

Also, I don't have any of the symptoms for sleep apnea.

When I went for my sleep study the guy told me he would be coming in to put Cpap on me if needed in the middle of the night. He never came in and I thought it was a good sign. Sure enough, results said no sleep apnea.

Hey, I actually work for a sleep specialist. The doctor probably ordered a split night for time sake. Usually they order a baseline and titration study. If during the night of the baseline study you have severe apnea. They will wake you, put you on cpap and titrate you through the rest of the night. If you made it through the split night and they did not titrate you is probably a good sign. Did they set you up with a second study? If not, then you probably don't have apnea or at least not severe enough to treat with cpap therapy. 5 hat doesn't mean you don't have apneas, they may just be mild. There is an oral appliance that can be used for mild to moderate apnea.

Hope this helps. Any other questions let me know.

They didn't titrate me during 1st study (said she would if had apnea) and I ended up having mild sleep apnea. I had to go back for titration. I'm somewhat cynical that I actually need a CPAP but I have one now. I do find I sleep deeper the last few weeks so that's been a plus.

I had a split study done in october, the tech told me if the sensors indicated severe apnea-they would use cpap on me. They didn't end up having to. My results showed I have mild sleep apnea but my doctor wants to see if weight loss helps it before talking about needing a cpap.

I will hopefully know more this coming week.

Same here. Was told if I met the requirements she's wake me up and put the CPAP mask on. She never came.

Yeah she never came in to put the CPAP mask on me, so I am hoping it is good news. No second study at the moment is scheduled. Thank you @joslek1988.

Thanks for the feedback. She gave me the perimeters for what would require her fitting me with the CPAP mask during the night. It is my takeaway that I did not fall into those requirements. Guess I will find out this week.

Thank you everyone for the feedback. Hopefully I'll know the results this week at some point.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
