How long before a BM? 9 days post op

I can so relate to your experience!

That Barium Meal in the hospital ..... definitely atomic!

Tiny marbles much later on, yes!

Nothing for a long time, especially on the liquid stage.

I was advised to add Benefibre to my shakes and juices. Did not help.

Finally, someone suggested Osmolax to me (very gentle, powder, mainly for children), this worked almost too well, so I don't take it often.

Purees and Soft food stages are finally waking my bowels up .... still very small amounts, but at least soft!

What are "FUPAs" ?

Colace was a life saver for me in the beginning. (Not peri-colace) You can find it at any drug store. Life changer. I will say that those first few weeks before I tried colace, I used Miralax & benefiber--I literally still thank God for each BM I have. TMI, but when you are struggling in that department, there is a gratitude that I don't know when I'll stop having. I'm 12 weeks. Colace!

My Dr said if I didn't go by day 4 post-op to use Milk of Magnesia and if I still haven't gone by day 6 to call the office and they would call me something in. I would take care of it ASAP!

Walk walk walk if you want to bring it down. How ever remember that you've only been in fluids so not much will come out I have my first two days post op I thought it was gas and it just ended up being basically Water and air(tmi sry) so now when I think I have gas I get close to a bathroom just in case because it's been just Fluid nothing formed at all

I am now about 3 months out.. Still having troubles going! I do not go if I dont take miralax or MOM. I have to track when I do go...otherwise I forget and then become very ill and tired...and it os all because I need to have a BM!

Drink lots of Water. That is one thing that will help you. Otherwise it will become rock hard and you will get impacted. Early on....I went 2 weeks. I was giving myself enema and taking laxatives to clean myself out. It was aweful. Dont let it go for too long!

@@kaciii - No pain meds. Didn't need any. And no Constipation related pain... it's just... nothing but gas. I don't know.

@@animallover1247 - I took stool softeners earlier this week and they did nothing. I guess I'll some magnesium citrate or something. I find it odd that I'm not even having the urge for a BM. That's why I asked. I didn't want to put myself in a miserable situation with being backed up.

Try miralax

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
