My surgery was delayed 4 hours but went smooth afterwards. Only pain is gas pain. Stayed in the hospital 2 days due to my blood pressure but today was my first day home. I'm a little scared. Not hungry and scared to even take a sip of Water.

Welcome home. There is a lot to deal with the first week, but nothing you can't handle. Don't avoid liquids, as dehydration is a common problem - just sip the Water a little at a time and keep at it. You'll feel better if you stay hydrated. The hardest thing for me to get used to is how little I can consume at one time, and that includes liquids.< /p>

@@anitavee - keep phrase is to "sip"

walk, walk, walk

sip, sip, sip

chew, chew, chew

get in Protein if you can, spoonful at a time of greek yogurt.

don't try to eat too much - less is best right now, because one extra bite can be uncomfortable.

keep posting and welcome to the 'other side' !

Thank you. My Bariatric team just called and instructed me to focus on 40 ounces of liquid as a goal. I don't have any severe pain... Just uncomfortable pain.

Tea and Water are my best friends right now. I've been walking in my subdivision and it's been great. My husband has been great. Both of us being nurses is helpful as well.

Seriously get in your liquids. Vitamin Water zero rise orange was a life saver. I still drink one first thing in the morning 7.5 months out. I used medicine cups to sip sip sip for my first two weeks. Throw in a Premier Protein shake now and then and you've got this. Just do one"shot" of liquid like every 3-4 minutes during waking hours and you should be good.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
