SlimmerMe89 7 Posted April 7, 2016 I had my surgery 03/29 and I still really have no appetite. I am now on purée diet but still have not taken anything by mouth only liquids. I haven't even had a shake. No appetite for anything honestly. Is this weird? Or should I be concerned? glitter eyes 1,398 Posted April 7, 2016 I didn't have an appetite for months. I had to look at food and my shakes as fuel for my body. Sometimes even smelling food would gross me out. Just make sure even if you don't have an appetite you stay hydrated and try and get your Protein in. Unfortunately, for most of us the appetite comes back
Valentina 2,642 Posted April 7, 2016 Welcome to "The Losers' Bench". If you have concerns --about anything really, contact your bariatric team. They will be able to guide you best so early in your journey. My guess is that you might just be a wee bit intimidated by "real" food---afraid to start eating again? It's only my guess. Oh, maybe you're sleeve isn't ready for pureed food yet. I'm 5years out and I still don't get "hungry". If I'm out and about I set my cell phone's alarm to remind me to eat. So, friend, please give your "team" a call and by all means come back and tell us what they said. You got this! One bite at a time.
2goldengirl 2,076 Posted April 7, 2016 I was sleeved on 3/10 and have no appetitie. I eat because I know I must - I have a calorie and Protein goal to meet. I know I need more than liquids, so I am branching out into new foods, one every day or so. If you are only taking liquids, how are you meeting your Protein and nutrient goals? Proud2BMe 1,016 Posted April 7, 2016 Not having an appetite is normal. You really should be at least doing the Protein shakes to make sure you are getting enough Protein. Follow your post-of diet info.
Bufflehead 6,358 Posted April 7, 2016 It is not weird but you need to be getting your Protein in (shakes or otherwise) whether you want to eat or not. That is crucial.
cindyw41 761 Posted April 7, 2016 I was sleeved Jan 12th and I still have no appetite. I have a shake in the morning and one at night to make sure I get my Protein in. I "snack" on Proteins throughout the day. (Eggs, cheese ex)
VSGAnn2014 12,992 Posted April 7, 2016 Not unusual at all. But you still have to get all your nutrition in that your surgeon's team says you need. That means (at this stage) Protein. So sip or slurp it down. Also, don't worry that this is a permanent condition. It isn't. You're going to go through so many changes in the next year. This is only one of the early ones. amandastearns 79 Posted April 8, 2016 I'm 7 weeks post op and often still lack interest in eating. For a few weeks (2-5 weeks post op) I felt like eating was a chore. I'm literally eating to survive, and that's kind of how it should be. Now I feel hungry once in awhile and it's nice to know I'm still human. You'll start feeling your new normal soon. Erica82 1 Posted April 8, 2016 I was sleeved 3/3, I had no appetite either. Even if u don't want to eat, drink your Protein shakes. If you don't your muscle will start breaking down. Trying just drinking. As long as you stay hydrated u are fine. Call your surgeon, u should have multiple visit for the first month. Good luck and feel better Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
