Hit the 50lb Milestone!

Recommended Posts

I started dieting New Years Day, and was sleeved on Feb 29th.

This morning I can declare that I have hit the milestone of 50b lost! :-) Still want to lose 50 more pounds this year, but I am hitting the gym for moderate workouts 3 days a week and walking 3 other days a week, and although I still need work, I am feeling and looking a lot better and moving a lot easier :-)

Thanks folks... the sleeve isn't an easy road to travel, but it is bringing results that I think are worth it. I appreciate the tips and the support that are given here at bariatric pal, so thank you :-)

Hi giggles - I started walking outside at 1 week postop, two blocks every other day at first... then I added length gradually up to 1 mile and transitioned to 6 days per week walking.

At 4 weeks, I started in at the gym - I ride the bike for 16 minutes to burn some calories, get my heart pumping, and build endurance in the legs. Then I do some exercises on the weight machines that don't stress the abdomen - all sitting, that work the arms, chest and shoulders, and at 5 weeks added lower back. I don't use heavy weights that I could only do 6-10 reps with as most weightlifters would do - want to avoid injury since I am out of shape and have holes in my belly muscles to boot. Instead I choose weights that allow me to do 15-18 reps for all machines - this way the max forces on the body are reduced and the likelihood of injuries and setbacks are reduced.

P.S. When I added the gym, that is 3 days a week and I now don't walk on those days. Plan to gently introduce abdomen exercise at 6 weeks, per my surgical team.

thank you for the info!! that sounds like a really great routine. I'll be 2 weeks post op monday, but am feeling good. I have been walking when I can, and have been trying to stay active. I do not have anything to monitor my activity like a fitbit I think that would be good to get! I think I should be ok to start lightly at the gym by the end of the month! Thanks again for the motivation, great job & good luck!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
