doordie 9 Posted April 7, 2016 Let me preface this by saying 1. Yes I do measure everything - EVERY THING. 2. I am only 1wk post op 3. My Dr. Saw me on day 5 and moved me up to pureed food bc I am handling my liquids so well. Now that is out of the way - I am not feeling "fullness" or I don't think I am...I am supposed to eat 1.5oz pureed Protein and then till I'm comfortable ... I am able to eat 5oz pureed without any I'll effects....6 usually makes me feels a little tightness behind my belly button which may just be gas pains but I always stop at 4/5 oz. I'm worried because I know "numbness" can cause you not to feel full and I am worried about expanding my pouch. I am able to drink & eat with no nausea ...I get my Protein in no problem. Typical day for me - 9am ---- 8oz hot tea +1 TBSP applesauce (for my potassium) 10am ----8oz fat free milk + Protein powder 11am-----8oz Water 12am-----8oz Water 12:30-----4-5 oz tuna/egg/light mayo pureed 1:30----8oz water 2:30---- 8oz water 3:30---- 8oz fat free milk 4:30-----5oz triple zero Greek yogurt with Protein Powder blended 5:30-----8oz water 6:00-----4/oz blended egg/tuna/light Mayo 7:00 ----- 8oz water 8:00 ----- 8oz water 8:30 (sugar free popsicle) sometimes if I feel the need to snack and I can't shake it. Avg calorie intake is 720-860, protein is 92-113 carbs are 45-60 and sugar is 15-25 per day? I feel like I am eating so much??? Threetimesacharm 1,400 Posted April 7, 2016 If you think you are eating too much you probably are. At ONE WEEK OUT it certainly seems like way too much. Seems like your doctor is aware and is okay with it. Do what you think is right, remember that you are in this to lose weight and the slower you go in the beginning you should lose lots of weight, as time goes on that is when you should/will be consuming more and weight loss will slow down. James Marusek 5,244 Posted April 7, 2016 I agree with Threetimesacharm. After surgery they start you out at 2 ounces per meal and over the next year and a half that slowly increases to 8. The most important things after RNY gastric bypass surgery is to meet the daily Protein, Fluid and Vitamin requirements. food is secondary because your body will convert the store energy in your fat into the energy that drives your body. Thus you lose weight. Exercise is equally important. You should be walking 30 minutes per day, or equivalent. The weight loss phase after surgery is relatively short and then you will gradually slide into the maintenance phase. Weight loss after surgery is achieved by meal volume control. If you want to maximize the weight loss achieved during the weight loss phase, you need to limit the volume of your meals. It is important to consume Protein during the weight loss phase because your body will be damaged without it. Normally this is done using protein supplements such as Protein shakes. Since your meal volume is so small at the beginning there is no way to achieve your protein requirement without using supplements. The protein supplements is a separate requirement than the meal volume requirement. In other words it doesn't count against your total volume limit. So when you drink a Protein shake, it is not considered a meal. The liquid portion of the Protein Shake counts towards meeting your daily Fluid requirement, the protein grams count towards your daily protein requirement but it doesn't count towards your meal limit. Since you are mixing in the protein powder into your meal, it seems like it is a little hard to figure meal volume. So what I see is 9 A.M. meal (only 1/2 your meal volume requirement) 10 A.M. protein (good) 12:30 A.M. meal (2-3 ounces over your meal volume requirement) 3:30 P.M. protein (good, in the form of milk) 4:30 P.M. meal (3 ounces over your meal volume requirement) 6:00 P.M. meal (this is interesting because this could be considered your fourth meal of the day. So overall during the day you have exceeded your meal volume requirement by 8-9 ounces.)
LynnMarie456 3 Posted April 7, 2016 Hi. You should be at not even or about a half a cup a day per meal. Your carbs are too high. I never eat a meal over 5-6 carbs. Your Protein powder should never be over 5 carbs. Total carbs for the day shouldn't be over 39. Calories total for the day should be no more than 800. You follow these rules and that makes you have smart food choices. The first year is your time to lose and you should take advantage of it. You must take your bariatric Vitamins and eventually start on an additional Omega 3-6-9 oil in addition to your smoothie. Have your doc run your Vitamin levels to see where they are at. I am a little over 4 months out and had my levels ran in March after 3 solid months of only bariatric chewables (Bariatric Fusion) just to see how effective they were. I was just low on D3 (i don't absorb D3 well and never have so i believe its not the Vitamins but me) So i added a liquid D3 and my Omega oil which i just add to my Protein Drink every morning like i said. I have a double scoop Protein Drink to be sure i get my 80-90 Protein every day and i always sip it slow with almond milk since its lower in carbs. I was also advised to switch around my protein powders so i may absorb the different vitamins in each. I was also advised to use a whole food protein powder. Just like my dogs i would always switch their food between all the natural dog food choices so they weren't lacking and they led very healthy lives. My homeopathic vet said this would keep them healthy and it did, so why not for us? I've lost 80 pounds so far 50 to go so its working for me and I'd thought i'd share. I have never hit a stall (knock on wood) Most important-3 meals a day only. No snacking or Protein Bars (creates (old) bad habits). 64 ounces of Water every day in between. Best of Luck! doordie 9 Posted April 8, 2016 I followed up with my NUT and gave her the example of what I am eating she said any Calcium (yogurt, 1-2oz soft cheese, milk ect) does not count as a meal and I can add Protein powder to it for my daily goal but I should have 3 servings of Calcium a day and as for my meals - it is normal that I can "hold" 4-5oz right now but she wants me to aim for 1-3oz instead bc my pouch is still healing. I have stopped eating as I was before & started doing only 1-3oz 1x a day and just Protein shakes the rest of the time. Thinner_Italian 1 Posted April 13, 2016 (edited) I only have 500cal a day. Try to find a Healthy Protein powder . I use MRM or X-RATED . Tastes so good with only one carb and 18 / 25g Protein. Enjoy ! Sent from my iPad using the BariatricPal App Edited April 13, 2016 by Thinner_Italian
judy1234 27 Posted April 13, 2016 Like ThinnerTimes, I also was told to keep it between 500-600 calories until Week 6. Now I have been encouraged to go to 700-800, but am having trouble since I am used to eating so little! Plus I am on a stall more often than not so worry about overeating.
