Trust me when I tell you those 6 months will go by so fast. I started this journey in September, 2015 and my surgery is Monday, April 11th; 4 days from now.

I thought the same thing when I began appointments, but there is really so much information to learn, and so much lifestyle changes to make that you will be happy to have had these last 6 months to take it in small bites rather than just being thrown to the lions. This takes a great amount of preparation, and although it annoyed me in the beginning, I'm so glad that I have the knowledge and the information that I have now. I'm still scared of screwing up after going through all this, but I know my fears are nothing that anyone else hasn't experienced. Sometimes you feel like you are all alone in this journey. Trust me you are not! Everyone here is such an inspiration and motivater that you will know that you've made the right decision.

Ask lots of questions. Write things down as you think of them so you can find out the answer. Being prepared is your best tool.

Good Luck to you.

I started the process May 2015, it had taken a year but I'm FINALLY getting my Surgery May 19th. Depending on your insurance company you have to be diligent about keeping up with your paperwork and test results.

As everyone else has said, those six months will fly by. I started my process in Dec. 2015 and am just finally having my surgery on May 3......that will be six months and I didn't even have a six month requirement. The time really did go by quickly with all the tests, appts, classes, etc. I spent a lot of time learning everything that is necessary to be successful in this process. Take this time to learn all you can....all the vets are so knowledgable. Start focusing on high Protein and low carbs; getting all your Water in every day and just making little changes in preparation for this life changing journey.[emoji846]

Didn't expect to get so many responses. Thanks guys! I'm sure it'll fly I'm just so impatient and ready to go. I get so fixated on things that when I know it's going to happen I want it to happen ASAP!

My process ended up being about 8 months. You're kept so busy hitting all aspects of the check list that before you know it, your surgery is in 3 day. I go in on monday, wish me luck!!

How much warning do you normally get on surgery dates? I want my husband to take the time off work and his office is weird about requesting at least 4 weeks out.

I know six months feels like forever. The only advice I have for you is to try to turn the waiting time into something positive. Is there something you can do to make surgery easier? For example, you could try to start an exercise program if you’re not doing one already so that you’re in shape and surgery is easier and safer. Or you could practice your healthy eating and new recipes. I know it feels like too long, but try to see the positive. And definitely keep us posted!

I had a 3 month wait and I tried to put that time to good use. No, not eating everything in sight ;-) I used this time to start changing my habits. Some examples: stop drinking with straws, start taking Vitamins daily, increase Fluid intake significantly, start getting in Protein via shakes. My surgery is scheduled for May and I started this journey in January. All of the things listed above are permanent changes you will need to make post-op anyway. I started them during the wait period because I was so afraid of being non-compliant. Essentially I made a bargain with myself: If I could not incorporate these lifestyle changes pre-surgery, I would push the surgery off. Funny, the thought of pushing the surgery off was all I needed to get my a$$ in gear.

I'm looking at over Christmas! I have to schedule my surgery around when I'll be home from college and that's my longest break, which stinks lol.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
