bbp4114 7 Posted April 6, 2016 Has anyone successfully gotten short term disability benefits after surgery...during recovery? I'm a teacher and my surgery may be approved before summer vacation. Thanks :-)
spdmonkeymama 36 Posted April 6, 2016 I am still pre op but what I heard from everyone in my support group they were back at work in a week. I know the way it worked for my Dad when he was working he could get short term disability if he was off work at least 7 consecutive days. lovemylukers 80 Posted April 7, 2016 Hi i got 6 weeks of short term disability and i used it. I have a very physically demanding job and i needed every bit of it. If you get it i recommend using as much time as they will give you, sup you can take your time healing and really be able to focus on yourself. B_D 54 Posted April 11, 2016 I requested 2 weeks with no problem. I don't have a highly physical job but wanted to take the time to heal.
Christinamo7 4,042 Posted April 11, 2016 I did not need it with this surgery - but I had a recent hysterectomy and went on short term disability that my work offers. The terms of our policy is you are out more than two weeks. the first two weeks come out of PTO, and then disability kicks in. with the sleeve I only stayed out one week, and then went on 6 hour days for the rest of the month with FMLA.
