My surgery is scheduled for April 18th. I've already bought all my Vitamins and such, and have started my 2 week pre-op liquid diet. Now that I know I have the time off work that I need, my last huge worry is the amount that my co-pay for the surgery itself will be. I have been told I'll have to pay it the day of surgery and I am terrified I won't have enough money for it. I'm trying to not stress too much and stay positive, but this could potentially put everything at a screeching halt and I can't imagine not having the surgery at this point. I guess just pray for me guys, and if you don't pray please keep me in your thoughts or send some good vibes my way!

Is it a copay or your deductible that it's being applied to. If it's your deductible they aren't allowed to collect up front...a claim as to be submitted and the insurance company as to approve based upon the contracted agreed amount. If it's your copay, then that amount is usually already outlined in your summary of benefits. Hope that helps. I work insurance and I know how frustrating it can be

I honestly don't know, I'm not the brightest in the insurance department! I just know I have an out of pocket maximum of $2500 and I'm close to $2100 already, before the surgery.

If you're close to your MOOP then you really won't pay much more than that to meet the gap. Call and simply ask, if it's copay or deductible. They will have information for both. You ask what the co-pays will be for hospital stay/surgeon fees/facility etc and then ask what you have met thus far towards deductible and your max out of pocket (MOOP) this information is there. Make them provide it

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
