Hello from the other side!

Recommended Posts

Well, I made it. Surgery was at 9:15am Monday morning. Surgery went off without a hitch. Tuesday morning, I started fluids by mouth, had no issue. By the afternoon I developed an intestinal bleed, so I haven't had anything by mouth since then, but it seems to have stopped now, so we're back on track.

The bleed has earned me an extra night at the hospital, but all said and done, I've been doing really well!

Hello, post-op, here we go!

I came home yesterday afternoon, and aside from a ton of sleeping, I've been pretty good. Clear liquids go down fine, but my Protein shake is a bit more of a challenge. Right now I'm getting 2 shakes down a day, but I'm supposed to be getting 3 plus 3 Protein 'Snacks.' Frankly I'm not even awake long enough for that, so I'm really focusing on fluids and getting in protein as I can. I know it'll get better over the next week or so.

My shoulders are still killing me from the gas. x_x I am VERY ready for that to go away now.

I'm still very weak and tired from the blood loss, but I'm trying to push fluids to let my body make more.

scale says I'm down 6.3 lbs this week.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
