InnerFitnessModel 2 Posted April 6, 2016 I'm sure this topic has been addressed, but I can't find anyone who is 6 weeks post op and have fatigue/tiredness. This happens typically in the late afternoon. I am not one who ever needed a lot of sleep (4-6 hours on the norm) but lately I've been sleeping 8-10 hours a night and still have a hard time getting up in the morning. I thought it maybe I'm getting too much sleep but I am feeling drained by mid to late afternoon. Has anyone else experienced this or know is this is common after sleeve surgery? Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App I want to add...I am taking my victim and every day as instructed: multi Vitamin, Iron, B12 and Calcium. JamieLogical 8,713 Posted April 6, 2016 I had fatigue for a good long while post-op. For me it improved when I was onto solid foods and could get in a reasonable amount of calories. Any idea how many calories you are getting in at this point?
Christinamo7 4,042 Posted April 6, 2016 hopefully your body is very busy when you are sleeping with all the changes. Perhaps you just need more sleep. Are you getting your Vitamins and enough Water?
InnerFitnessModel 2 Posted April 6, 2016 I am averaging about 400 calories a day. I workout so I know I need to increase it a bit but I don't get hungry and I feel full after 2-3 oz of food. I feel I'd be eating all the time to increase the calories. Not sure what to do about that. I am getting 60-90 gms Protein in a day. JamieLogical 8,713 Posted April 6, 2016 That's definitely not enough calories! No wonder you are tired. I made sure I was up over 800 a day before I started working out. I could only eat about 3 oz. of food at a time too. The key is to eat at least 5-6 times a day. For me, once I was cleared for solid foods, my day looked like this: Breakfast: Protein Bar/Shake Morning Snack: String cheese Lunch: 2-3 oz. of meat Afternoon Snack: Dannon Light & Fit Greek Yogurt (I would add a little granola if this was a cardio day) Dinner: 2-3 oz. of meat Evening Snack: Protein Bar/Shake I always work out after work, so my afternoon snack was my "pre-workout" snack. Which means I would like to throw a few carbs in there to help fuel my workouts. It was usually a little granola or Kashi Cereal mixed into my yogurt. Christinamo7 4,042 Posted April 6, 2016 (edited) yes, I am 7 weeks out and I *do* feel like I am eating all the time. you can't go by hunger anymore. you just have to eat when it is time to eat. in fact, I've just made adjustments to my workout routine because after having my husband help me evaluate my calories (I am seriously math challenged) I knew I can NOT eat enough to do what I have been doing the last couple of weeks. Some minor tweeks to food, and work out and we'll see if I can get this party started. :-) Edited April 6, 2016 by Christinamo7
gingeryank 37 Posted April 6, 2016 You're not alone. I'm 6 weeks out tomorrow and sleep 10 hours a night. I'm exhausted. I take my Vitamins, too, and I aim for 800 calories a day. I struggle to get my Protein and Water in. I get in the bare minimum. I know I need more calories and hydration because I've started walking an hour a day. InnerFitnessModel 2 Posted April 6, 2016 Thank you to everyone for your advice and experience. I know it's different for everyone. I wanted to provide you all with an update. I just came from my six-week doctors appointment and I asked all these questions to them. They stated that the fatigue is completely normal. That our bodies are just getting used to the new sleeve and weight adjustment and it should subside within the next six weeks. The caloric intake I'm taking in is normal as well. They stated my three meals a day of 2 to 3 ounces with two Snacks with your Protein shakes, are perfect. I wanted to give you all that update for anyone who is going through what I am going through now. If anyone's doctors have said anything contrary to this, please let me know. I'm always open to hearing other opinions. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

BestDayEver 418 Posted April 6, 2016 I think feeling tired for a couple of months is quite normal. You're body is going through so much right now and I think sleeping 8 or more hours a night is very helpful. Be kind to yourself and get plenty of rest. JupiterinVirgo 846 Posted April 10, 2016 I took a lot of naps for the first two months to three months. I also found I needed to pay much closer attention to my body's signals in order to keep a consistent energy level after surgery. Before surgery, I could load up like a camel, and could forget about eating in between, but afterwards if I want my energy to last all day, I have to be very aware of when my body needs more food. It used to be every 2 to 3 hours. Now I can go a little longer if I need to. I had my surgery at the end of November 2015.
