I thought they were trolls

Recommended Posts

When ever I would read crazy posts about what people were eating right after surgery I thought it must be trolls. Surely their surgeon would send them with some specific diet instructions. Today at my 1 week post op nutrition class, one guy (who had the same surgeon as me so I know he got a million handouts and talks about what and when to eat) told everyone what he had been eating (keep in mind should have been Clear liquids only), the NUT's jaw dropped. In fact she went and called the surgeon to come over and meet him before class was out.

They might be real people...with decent surgeons... mind blown. :o

I am slow to move to full/semi liquid stage that I could have started a few days ago as my sleeve is still tempermental. Tomorrow I will start 1/2 ounce of Greek yogurt... maybe.

I still don't see how that is even possible. When I first began eating food I used an empty pudding cup as a portion size and even at that I couldn't eat even half of it.

Wait, am I missing something? You don't actually say what the guy was eating in your post.

Yes, I'm intrigued to hear what he was eating, also...

I am more intrigued to hear how he could even eat anything. I was on liquids for 2 weeks. Even now 10 weeks post op I still have pain when I eat.

Was he having a good old Big Mac alongside with a liter of diet coke?

Sorry for the suspense. He eats 3 raw eggs a day, a full can of clam chowder, 2 cans of potted meat, whole Beans and salsa. Some other stuff, both large portions, solids, spicy stuff.

She was going over foods, and he would be like how about______, because I have already been eating that and it seemed fine.

She should have told him "Have patience, young Grasshopper".

First wow, there is no way I could have handled that, but then you have to think he has problems that far surpass the surgery.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
