5 Weeks Post Op- Things have definitely changed

Recommended Posts

I don't get here often to update since my surgery on March 1st, but yesterday was 5 weeks post op. I have been in a stall for almost 2 weeks and a little miffed about it but life goes on, I am eating and drinking right so I know the losing will start again.

I do not regret the surgery at all and actually my surgery and recuperation was a breeze. No sickness, nausea, vomiting. No pain when I swallow and no pain when I gulp instead of sip. All in all I have been dandy.

One thing I heard mentioned a time or two before I had surgery and feel like I want to share now is this: It seems like there are no foods that just taste terrific for me anymore. Not that I can't enjoy my food to some degree, but its like food is more of a necessity to survive with my hair and muscle mass and less of a hobby!

This is all a good thing and I am happy that I am not driven to keep gorging on something because it tastes good but I have to admit that when I had a sampling of things I use to eat and enjoy, now its just so so. I have watched people eat hamburgers and goodies and not been irked or felt cheated. Will this change?

I am thankful for what I have going on now and hope everyone going into surgery can have the fantastic recovering I am feeling.

Will it change? Probably, but not necessarily. Take advantage of these months free from cravings and delighting in all things food and work them HARD. You'll miss them when they (likely) go away, so use this period to establish and commit to excellent eating habits and to lose as much weight as you safely can. Enjoy!

I am 4 weeks out and I feel the same but I mostly have no desire to eat bc I can't over eat so I feel like I might as well eat to fuel myself

I had surgery March 2 and am experiencing the same thing as you including the stall. But I understand it's part of the process. I just joined a gym and hoping for good things to happen. Good luck to me and you

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
