Goodwill shopping help

Recommended Posts

You rent clothes??? From where? That's amazing! I have lived in Danskin capris for years. Almost feel like it is a uniformemoji13.pngemoji13.pngemoji13.png. But, I do need more yoga pants so I may be headed back to buy some in smaller sizes.

Gwynnie Bee. They have a month free, if I refer you I get $25 towards my monthly bill, you get your month free still ;) Win Win. Either way, worth looking at, seriously.

Around where I live the goodwill selection is much better if you go to a location in or near the priciest part of town.

That is true for me, too. I don't go to my local thrift stores. Not to sound rude, but most of the people here where I live aren't going to give things away that are in good enough shape for me to want to buy them. When I go down to Hampton Roads in VA, though, I destroy some thrift stores. Always manage to come out with a bag or two of mostly like-new or new name brand stuff.

I am also a big clearance shopper. Stores like JCPenney's and Macy's have awesome clearance sections. Found a bunch of shirts for like $5-10 last time I went.

There's also thredup. It's basically an online thrift store/consignment shop. You can buy and sell there. If you're interested, I have a referral code that you can use that gets us both $10 off our next purchase.

Haunt the Goodwills near wealthy neighborhoods. I am a mosaic artist and am constantly on the hunt for fine china to use in my work.....and the stuff I have found at Goodwills in wealthy areas is completely different from those in modest areas. I have found Lenox, Limoges, Royal Dalton, English Royal Crown Derby.....

And that clientele drops off their off-season clothes a lot more often than fine china!

I don't recommend selling on ThredUp. I sent 16 quality items and got $20.88 - they sold all items and did pretty good for themselves. I'd rather give away clothes.

I actually agree with you sorta on not selling to them, but if you don't want to have to deal with the hassle of taking your clothes to a resale shop and then having to take the walk of shame carrying out all of the items they refused then thredup is a good option. They also donate the items that they don't accept. I've also been paid more for some items from thredup than I actually purchased the item for. Woot woot!

I used thred up twice and was super disappointed in the amount they gave me for my items and how many of my items they deemed "unsellable "

How are pristine lane Bryant dress pants I wore once not sellable??

I won't use them again .....

I will chime in on going to Salvation Army and Goodwill in nice areas. I have found myself shopping there a ton post-surgery. Granted, I'm male, so your mileage may vary.

I have plenty of Calvin Klein, Ralph Lauren, Talbots, etc shirts, all in great shape, all less than $15. Sure, you can get shirts for $15 new at retail, but you won't get these brands for anywhere near it. I also have multiple pairs of Lucky jeans and Gardeur Jeans, also for under $15. These suckers retail for $100-$200 a pair.

I never shopped at either of these stores in my life, but am hooked now. I probably have the cheapest, yet most expensive wardrobe I've ever owned right now.

Oh yeah, I actually had an emergency need for some nicer clothes, so I was able to pick up a Jos A Banks sport coat and a Brooks Brothers shirt for about $25.

It's hot or miss honestly. I use Goodwill and Savers and sometimes I'll leave with bags of clothes for $20 and other days I pick through all the racks and leave empty handed. It's kind of like hunting. If you aren't into the hunt, maybe stick to clearance racks and eBay or something

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.

Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
