bellabeans 74 Posted April 6, 2016 I'm a little confused, Some or most ins co require that you see a nutritionist for 6 months prior to approval . Are you supposed to lose weight in that timeframe or is it to show you can't lose weight and would benefit from the sleeve?? If you do lose weight do they not approve you ??? JamieLogical 8,713 Posted April 6, 2016 Usually they want you to lose some weight to prove you will be able to stick to the post-op diet. The trick is to not lose so much weight that you no longer meet their BMI requirements.
Miss Mac 6,262 Posted April 6, 2016 It wasn't required for me, but by sticking to the 1200 calorie low carb - high Protein plan they put me on, I lost 22 pre-op pounds from August 7 to December 13th.
amandastearns 79 Posted April 6, 2016 They will not deny you if you lose weight depending on your bmi. The point of meeting with the NUT is to get you mentally and physically prepared for surgery and eating post op.
