Hi everyone! Looks like I'm scheduled April 28 for my sleeve. I do not have a pre op diet. My surgeon only requires no eating or drinking before mid night and special instructions if you take medications. I can not have Advil starting now for me as well but Tylenol is ok.

2 weeks before start having lighter meals that's all. I'm reading everyone talk about their liquid diets and wondering if there are people out there who DID NOT have a pre op diet and if you made your own pre op diet or what.

Everyone is different. Just follow your surgeon's instructions. Don't try to make it harder on yourself.

That said, one thing that helped me was to gradually wean myself off of carbonation and caffeine pre-op.

It will be difficult getting in all of your fluids immediately post-op and it won't help if you are also going through caffeine withdrawal, too.

Best of luck with your surgery.

I never went liquid, but was cut to 1700 calories a day as soon as I entered the program and 1000 for the last week.

I would recommend this. First of all, the sooner you drop lbs, the quicker you'll hit your goal. @@MarciaN on this site lost almost 100 lbs pre-opt (due to delays in getting cleared).

My surgery was a breeze and I think it was because I lost 30 lbs in 60 days pre-opt. This left plenty of empty space in my abdomen, which gave the surgeons plenty of room to move.

One last suggestion, cut out sugar and simple carbs ASAP. It will curb your appetite and make the entire journey a breeze!

A lot of people don't have a pre-op diet. Every surgeon has their own plan and it's important to make sure you follow YOURS. I agree with the others that say cutting caffeine and carbs now will make it a little easier on you post-op. Going through caffeine withdrawal and entering ketosis at the same time, while dealing with the pain and discomfort post-op would not be much fun.

I haven't had a pre-op diet and it went just fine! I already lost 35 pounds and I had my surgery on the 25th of February!

I just had lighter meals to get used to it!

I also had no preop diet. My BMI was right at 35 and my surgeon did not want me to go below my current weight for fear that my insurance would have an issue. I did try to incorporate shakes into my diet the week before just to get used to the taste. Glad I did because they are an acquired taste.

Did you guys start any Vitamins before hand?

I started my bariatric multi-Vitamin and probiotic pre-op. Didn't do the Calcium and B12 until I was post-op.

I am also scheduled for 4/28!!! I found out yesterday and screamed with excitement in his office! Lol. I walked out and his staff was smiling and laughing at me. I have to start a liquid diet on 4/15. I have to have 3 shakes a day- he wants me to us the NY Bariatric ones and then I can have an egg or yogurt or cottage cheese (which I hate) between meals so he said to eat low fat ricotta instead. I have a 90 minute class to go to on the 11th where I expect to get more info. No Vitamins for me until after surgery.

I did not have a pre op diet and i did just fine, 8 months out and down 92 pounds. I did not start taking my Vitamins before surgery but a few after. Good luck on your journey and remember everyone is different just listen to what your doctor tells you to do!

I had a pre-op liquid diet and I'm still envious of people that didn't have one :). It was the worst part of my journey so far. I was also required to start B12 and Probiotics with my two-week pre-op diet. My surgery was a breeze and I think the diet and the Vitamins helped.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
