So I have been going to a few support groups in my area at bariatric center and it seems like every time I go I hear more and more things that scare me :( I haven't had my surgery yet but I'm starting to wonder ...

I don't know what you hear or what scares you. You don't say whether you hear anything that sounds positive. You have to be aware that any surgery carries risk. You also have to be aware that some of what you hear ay well be based on patient non-compliance or magical thinking. This is not to say that people don't have real difficulties despite following instructions to the letter.

You also don't say whether you ask questions at the meetings. If not, you're missing out on a valuable opportunity to learn and fill in the gaps that people leave for you to puzzle over. These are your meetings, too, and I hope you're using them as part of the way you fulfill your obligation and responsibility to yourself.

Be aware at the same time that people who attend support groups are often the ones who are encountering difficulties of one sort or another. Those who have smoother sailing and success tend not to be at meetings. Some, however, go as an extra way of having support.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.
