coffee is one of the simple pleasures of life I enjoy every morning. I was advised to ease my way into drinking it and see how my body responded. I began drinking a cup with equal parts coffee and Fairlife milk, and then gradually altered the ratio to have more coffee and less milk. Rather than adding sugar to it I use Torani sugar free Syrup to sweeten it. You can find the syrups at World Market and some Bed, Bath, and Beyond locations, as well as on Amazon, and they can be used in several recipes as well. The blog "The World According to Eggface" has some terrific ones. Alternatively I'll mix a little chocolate Protein powder with milk (so it doesn't curdle in the hot coffee) and pour that in for flavor. I also have iced coffee when I'm teaching evening classes or otherwise in need of a boost, and will add milk and a tiny bit of their sugar free syrup.

If you really prefer sugar, I think that would be fine so long as you used it sparingly. I would be sure to measure it because it can be easy to add too much.

I never ever received any restriction toward coffee or thee (caffeinated), I have started drinking thee 4 days post-op and I have started drinking coffee one month after (just because it took me long at first and cold coffee tastes like sh*t).

I don't know about sugar though since I like my coffee black... Maybe stevia?

I just think that if you drink caffeinated coffee or thee be sure to drink enough Water :)

I started drinking coffee at 2 weeks out, but 1 cup a day instead of my previous 6+ cups per day. Now 5 weeks out I am up to 2 cups per day, but will try to hold it there. coffee gets to be counterproductive when you drink too much of it. And for me, I use Splenda and Land o' Lakes non-fat Creamer with it.

I just had my first nutritionist appt this week and asked about caffeine. She said no caffeine at all. It interferes with absorption of nutrients such as Calcium and Iron. It can also cause ulcers, dehydration and in some cases increase hunger. I'm going to avoid it as much as possible. I'd rather not take any chances especially with nutrient absorption - one of my fears of having the surgery is the hair loss.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
