All these hoops for insurance approval.

Recommended Posts

I feel like I have been at this forever and still have a ways to go. My insurance requirements just to submit to insurance seems like I will never get there. I started this jouney in June of 2015. I live in Ohio, and I am going through The Ohio State University for my surgery. Just for them to be able to submit to insurance I have to go through so many steps. I had to go to the bariatric seminar, my initial consult, meet with the nutritionist, have a pyciatric clearance, do a cardiac clearance, blood work, endoscopy, 9 months of Dr. weight loss and exercise documentaions, sleep study with 30 day cpap compliance, 4 life after surgery classes, plus loose 5- 10 percent of weight. I am almost at the end, but feel like it will never get here, I have 2 more months with my Dr. and 2 more life after surgery classes. I have a fear that after all of this that somehow I will have done something wrong and have to start all over again. I know it is all worth it and it is teaching me how to keep going after surgery, but the process seems like it isnever going to end. Just needed to vent a little.

Good luck on your upcoming surgery. Shouldn't be long now.

Two recommendations. Make sure you walk 30 minutes each day. It will help dramatically with the recovery process.

If you haven't given up caffeine, do so now. I went cold turkey with my 6 diet coke a day habit at the start of the process and suffered through a week of severe headaches and body aches. You don't want to do this just prior to surgery, otherwise you will compound the withdrawal effects with the effects of surgery.

Thank you for the tips. I have been walking. I did give up my Dr pepper but struggling with the coffee. Thanks again for the support.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
