Please allow me to share some inspiration with you this morning. This is my Uncle Stan. The first picture is at my grandmas 90th birthday. It is shortly before he had the sleeve. Kidney disease, heart issues, diabetes. I honestly thought we might not have him long. The second picture is last weekend. Grandma is 93. He has lost I would guess half his extra weight. He is almost 70. In those three years he has fought off kidney cancer and had that kidney removed. His wife is in hospice with colon cancer. If he can change his life I won't let my issues stop me. he is also teaching me to keep trying for my goal - but not to get hung up on it. he only lost half yet his life is completely changed, and probably saved. he is teaching me that it is going to be ok as long as I keep going, keep trying.

Thank you for sharing this. I think a LOT of people get hung up on a number here and trying to reach an arbitrary goal weight. The truth is, just losing as little as 10% of your body weight can have a HUGE impact on your health. The main reason any of us have this surgery should be to live a longer, healthier life.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
