Guys who started over 400 lbs.

@@sgc, I too have the same problem. I often, but not always, wear a compression T (sleeveless). I am currently wearing XL stretchy shirts(polos, T shirts) but wear a 2X in a button up cotton dress shirt. I fit in a XL button up shirt AS LONG AS I STAND UP. Sit, and it pulls across my stomach- even with 240 lbs lost! Even as I lose my last 60 lbs, I think I will always have the same issue until plastics takes care of my extra middle. Having started with 5 X's, I am thrilled with just one X (0 X's will be even better). Keep up the good work.

I'm dealing with the same issue as well. I have tried using compression shirts, but have struggled to find any that are long enough that they cover my whole, elongated belly. @@DavidOso, have you found a particular compression shirt that works well?

Im female (obviously) but my husband is getting sleeved in about 6 weeks, which is why I was reading this thread. That and we are both ~385. I am getting sleeved in 10 days.

VDB, you mentioned edema and that it is gone now. Can i ask what kind/symptoms?

I have had idiopathic peripheral edema for almost 10 years now. The hydroclorathiacide originally used to treat it gave me gout. I have also maxed out the dosage of furosimide with no real relief. I cant even wear real shoes (only stretchy sandals) due to the swelling.

I guess i am hoping you had similar issues and it was resolved with WLS.

Hi there, I had ipe as well. It was painful as you know, and furosimide etc only gave me temporary relief. I had to wear size 19 extra extra wide Shoes when normally I wear 17 or 18 wide. Main problem was mobility -- I could see the wheelchair or walker coming... now totally gone. I am 40# from goal but right now am on a lunch break from painting my very large house, using ladders etc. That says it all, and I feel good...

@@Thucydides, I use "Insta Slim Muscle T" It's a tank top. I have had issues with sleeves, too tight in the pit area. Ebay has them, not very expensive. I'm 6'0'' and the shirts come down to pelvic area. I suggest getting the same size as a dress shirt. I wear 2X dress shirts, so 2X. I do have a XL, it is VERY squishy on me now. Maybe in 20 more lbs. These are a bit of a bitch to get on but comfortable afterwards. I wear them to the gym too, so I'm not a loose skin version of Baywatch on the treadmill!

Two week post op checkup today. I'm down 51lbs since pre-op. Moving on to soft Proteins and best of all back to the gym next week.

Wow man, you're killing it. I started at 385lbs and by the morning of surgery after two weeks of liquid diet, I was at 351.8 - then about 1 1/2 weeks post-op at the surgeon's office I was 341.5lbs. So 51lbs right now is killer. I haven't weighed in about a week, and I'm planning on holding off until my next doctor checkup. I just don't want to step on the scales too much, it's always been my enemy :)

Thanks. Apparently I mistyped I am down 41, which is still good. I started similar to you. I was 391 then 368.5 at surgery, then 350 at the surgeons office at 2 weeks. I agree about staying off the scale. I am trying to go for once a week.

Yeah, looks like we are on very similar trajectories then! I'm definitely going to avoid the scale, I'm probably only going to weigh at the doctor's office, but we'll see. The way I see it, my clothes tell me all I really need to know.

Worst part of the whole process, I think! Aside from the mental hurdles you have to get past. But just keep remembering that there's a time limit on it, and you're setting the tone for the rest of your weight loss journey with that pre-op diet. It's important, do your best :)

I agree the preop diet sucks. You feel hungry but it is a great trend setter.

The preop diet was rough for me too. I only did it for two weeks, but I felt like I had the flu, the whole time.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
