I have absolutely no energy!

Recommended Posts

I had my sleeve surgery and hernia repair done a week ago and I have absolutely no energy! I can't even sit up all I want to do is lie in bed. Is this normal? I'm drinking my Protein shakes and as much liquids as my body will allow. But not sure why I'm so drained, any suggestions? My doctor wants me to exercise but how can I with no energy? Thanks in advance!

You had major surgery. Your body is healing and yes this is normal. I didn't start feeling normal till about 3 weeks out.

Same here. I kept apologizing to my husband, he would come home from work and I hadnt done anything but lay on the couch. It is totally normal to be so tired. Especially on a liquid diet.< /p>

It's very normal that close in. As long as your staying well hydrated and keeping it down, you should get past it. I got fatigue so bad that I had a hard time simply holding my head up. It was bad and right after the 1st week. Follow the Dr's orders and you'll be fine.

After reading these post. I have decided to hire a temporary home assistant. I have my own business and I can't stand to be in bed and not doing house work or business task at home. Did anyone else use a post surgery home health aide or caregiver?

That was me until today! I'm 5 days in from my sleeve surgery and hiatal hernia. I still feel bruised, but I'm steal walking my dog 3 times a day to keep a little active even if I'm tired.

I bought juices from whole foods today (vegetables and fruits) because I couldn't deal with more broth I'm adding my Vitamin C and Vitamin D in my juices and it made ALL the difference in the world! My energy level went from 0-10! And I'm only drinking 1 liter of liquids a day because I can't seem to get more in.

I hope this helps! Good luck

Does your doc want you on your Vitamins yet? If so are you taking them?

As for a home health aide- go for it! Personally I gave birth to three who are now teens and took care of me lol.

As others have said, you are only a week out, so not feeling back to normal, is normal. As far as "exercise" goes, stay away from anything that stresses the abdominal muscles, and start small and gradually work your way up. Maybe you start by just walking around the block, and the next week, you add another block to your walk, for example. I think it's good to start incorporating some activity into your second week, just don't overdo it at first.

Yes, I remember being just totally drained. Not just tired, but physically exhausted. I think it started to get better around 5 weeks post op and then by 8 weeks my energy was completely back and better than it was before.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
