What OTC products do I need to bring with me to Tijuana?

Recommended Posts

What will I need to purchase post-op that isn't provided from the hospital? I understand that there may be opportunities for field trips during my stay? Vitamins, heartburn, pain relievers, and misc?

Thank you!

I didn't go to Mexico, but the only thing OTC I remember using immediately post-op was liquid Tylenol. Be sure and get the adult version. The children's version is full of high fructose corn Syrup.< /p>

I brought gas X strips but didn't use them cause they made me sick to my stomach. The other gentleman use them with no problem. I brought loose fitting cloths, extension cord (I watched movies in the hospital room cause only a few channels are in English), I brought a DVD player and my 3 season of my HBO show, chap stick, and comfortable shoes. Other than that i really didn't need anything. A good thing to bring is some adhesive remover wipes... If you can't find them then bring some baby oil or coconut oil. The tape they use leaves adhesive on your belly and its sticky!

I had the same problem with the sticky tape they use. I had on a red shirt so the stickiness turned red, ugh. I was able to get it off when I got back home though after a little elbow grease. Tummy was sore so I could only do so much at a time.

If your staying at the Hyatt in Tijuana, there is a 24 hour grocery store less then a block away and some of the girls found a Walmart about 3 blocks away in case u do need something. They accept American money also.

Depends on what hospital, where you are staying and what they provide. I was at OCC and the Marriot. They provided all my postop medication (sublingual NSAIDS, antibiotics, antinausea, GI motility meds, and PPIs). chicken broth, bottled Water and popscicles. I brought GasX strips and narcotic pain Meds with me but never needed them.

I did walk to Walmart 1-2 times/day after surgery and picked up herbal tea bags and pedialyte. Plus my sister needed to get her Starbucks fix. There's also a GNC next to Walmart and I got a couple bottles of Isopure. Unfortunately it tasted horrible and made me gag. If anything, the walking was great for postop gas....probably why I never needed the GasX.

OCC also provided thigh-high compression stockings to wear postop and especially for the flight home. I suggest bringing some if your hospital doesn't provide them.

Thank you! Good ideas especially the adhesive remover, it would be annoying to have your tops stick to you!

Thank you! I may be staying in the recovery house if it is available, but did hear there was a Walmart nearby.

For me Gas-X strips, chapstick and extra bandages. When they discharge you, they don't send you home with extra. After your first discharge shower, there is no one but you to replace a bandage if needed.

I took gas-x strips, unflavored Protein powder and hand sanitizer. I wish I had remembered my chapstick. Everything else was handled. I was a at OCC (Dr. Ariel Ortiz) and they provided all the prescription meds and arranged for chicken and beef broth, popsicles and bottled Water at the hotel.

Typically you just spend one night in the clinic (the night after your surgery). One night in the hotel before and 1-2 nights in the hotel after.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

      2. BlondePatriotInCDA

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
