First time posting! Broth prep?

Recommended Posts

Hi Everyone. Do I start by introducing myself and my stats? I've been lurking and learning from you all for a little while now and feeling so excited for my journey!

Started the required 6 months of Options classes through Kaiser, and have 4 more classes to go. Wow.

I've been thinking about the double straining of Soup. Is anyone prepping meals and freezing them yet or anything? Or do you recommend doing that? My husband watches those zombie prepper shows sometimes, so maybe that is rubbing off on me, haha.

I just had some oral surgery, and I feel like it's showing me how it will be, drinking only broth and eating mushy foods. I can tell I will miss "chewing" greatly in those first few stages!!!!

So glad to be here. Glad I found this site!!

@@Sandy GlueStick welcome!! I'm not preparing any food for the future.......I watched a YouTube video of a girl that talked about how she went overboard preparing things in advance and stocking up of Protein powder and stuff before her surgery.....this video was titled something like "What I would do Different".....anyway the moral of her story was remember you will still be able to go out shopping when needed. She even offered to send Protein Bars and drinks to people who wanted them...lol.....I'm still pre-surgery mine should be in May....but I've had to remind myself of her video several times because I think it's pretty normal to want to "prepare.".........good luck in your journey!

Welcome aboard!

I didn't cook much, especially pre-op so it wasn't an issue for me.

If it's something you are making anyway and want to freeze some then by all means do so.

But, I think you will be surprised at how far things stretch immediately post-op when your portion size is so small.

I know that some people have mentioned freezing Soups and broths in ice cube trays.

I made chili before hand (well. I make it quite often anyway) and froze some in small dishes for me, and I made my own bone broth which is much more flavorful than store bought. :-) it was nice to have on hand afterwards - but my favorite thing was sugar free outshine Popsicles.

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.

Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
