One year out 80lbs down. Why can't I lose

Recommended Posts

1 year out down 80lbs. But I swear to god it is nearly impossible to drop anything. I started at 295 down to 215. I'm 5"10. The last 4 months I've only lost 4lbs. And I work out 3 times a week. Just seems like my body is like your done. And is making me be like I've gone as far as I can. :( anyone else having similar issues?

Can you give us some insight into what your daily routine is like? You mention exercise, but not what or how much. You didn't say anything about what you are eating? Are you tracking your food? How much Protein are you getting?

Are you tracking every bite of food and drink? Are you drinking all the required Water and getting in enough Protein? Are your carbs too high? Are your calories too high?

Go back to basics if you are slowed or stalled - track your food, get your minimum Water in, Protein first, veggies next and complex carbs if there is any room and make sure you're getting just enough calories to have about a 500 calorie/day deficit (not too little as that can cause starvation mode; not too much obviously either).

I play roller hockey 1 night a week and go to gym for about 45 mins mostly treadmill or eliptical. I'm not out of shape I can run a mile in about 7:50. I work with adults with mental disabilities so it's like a desk type learning environment. A typical food day would be a junior roast beef from wawa about a 4 inch sandwich. Then maybe baked chips small 140 calorie bag. dinner is always diffrent. Chili, stew ,eggs etc. Sometimes I get Breakfast sometimes not

It doesn't sound like you are getting enough Protein or eating often enough.

Are you tracking your food?

Are you reaching your Protein target every day? (What is your protein target?)

Are you getting AT LEAST 64 oz of Fluid a day (more of you are exercising)?

Are you avoiding starches, added sugars, and fried foods?

Are you taking your Vitamins and supplements as directed?

Have you talked to your NUT lately about your concerns?

I'm right there with you. Lost 60 pounds the first six months. Have lost and gained the same 4-5 pounds for 6 months. I started HIIT training one hour a day 3-4 days a week in December. Still no loss. I will say I haven't followed the program as strictly as in the beginning. I track, I drink all my Water (never drink soda, juice etc.) but my carbs can get high from fruits. Plus, I am hungrier now. I'm okay with maintaining, just don't want to gain. Maybe I'll lose some more down the road JUST NO GAIN!

I lost 150# in 14 months. However my losses slowed to a crawl after losing the first about 110-120. I had to push hard! I went really low carb and switch to high intensity interval training. I have been maintaining fine (hit goal Feb 2013) but had to get a little radical to get the losses.

That doesn't sound like enough food in general and DEFINITELY not enough Protein. At 214 pounds, with your level of activity, you should be getting at least 100 grams of Protein a day. You should be eating 5 times a day, breakfast being crucial. Even if all you can manage is a shake or Protein Bar, it would be better than nothing!

Probably right about food intake and Protein. Because I went on cruise and had 3 meals a day and went I came back was afraid to weigh in but i was surprised and lost 3lbs. Before I was busting my butt off and couldn't lose more then .5 I know I'm not getting 100 grams maybe 50-70.

I'm in the same position as you. Am now 16 months out and have gained and lost the same 3-4 pounds for a few months. Very frustrating. I am doing everything the way I'm supposed to, No carbs except one piece of fruit per day and some non-starchy veggies. Exercise pretty regularly. I don't really know what else I can do. Have talked to Nut, who just says to cut down on healthy fats. I don't eat many fats, healthy or otherwise. I am about 15 pounds from goal and am beginning to feel like I'll never get there at this rate. Like a previous poster said, I'm okay with staying where I am, but am terrified of gaining. Any advice???

Any idea what your daily calorie intake is? How much Protein are you getting?

About 1200 calories per day, about 80 grams of Protein. I eat a VERY healthy diet and have from the first day of this journey. Have not had a bite of Pasta, bread, rice, or sugar since the beginning. I have read a couple of books recently (Mark Hyman and Dr. Ludwig) that talk about how calories don't matter, it's simple carbs, etc. that make us fat, that fat is actually a weight loss booster, etc. I tried their diet suggestions for a couple of months and lost about 3 pounds right off the bat, then stopped losing again. Anyway, am at a loss at what to do at this point.

Your stats are very similar to mine. I had surgery in December, 2014, starting weight about the same as you, and current weight close to yours as well. Am quite a bit older though, post menopausal, and think that may be what's causing the problem. Unfortunately, nothing I can do about that, much as I would like to!!!

@@Momcat What's your activity level like? 1200 calories a day sounds low to me, but I'm in maintenance and training for a half marathon, so my perspective is pretty skewed. How much more weight are you hoping to lose? 164 for our height isn't that bad, depending on your body composition. The goal weight my nutritionist set for me was 165. Any idea what your body fat percentage is?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
