After 8 years with my lapband, the weight is coming back

Recommended Posts

I got my lapband in July 2008 when I was 30. I started out like a champion the weight came off at a nice steady pace, I lost 80 lbs in a year and my skin tightened as I went along. I was so proud of myself. I even had a baby 27 months after surgery and lost my baby weight immediately. After having my gallbladder out in January 2012, the weight started coming back on fairly rapidly. I had gained back 30 lbs by the summer of 2013 when I bought my house. As of this morning, according to the scale, I have gained back 36 lbs since surgery. I lost my will power when I started gaining weight in 2012. Since then I have gone back to sodas, sugar, carbs, etc...I KNOW I'm not getting the Protein I need each day. I haven't been able to exercise with the intensity I used to due to a knee injury that hurts most days, but the main reason for the weight gain is the lifestyle change I made during the pre and post op process is gone, I reverted back to bad habits over time. I am scared to death of my weight now and am desperate to lose weight and get back to where I was when I was at my lowest or lower. I'm wondering if I need to tuck my tail and go back to my surgeon, admit my habits, check to see if everything inside of me is as it should be, get an adjustment, see the dietician, and suffer through the "one cup" rule until I am back in the habit. Easier said than done and expensive for the appts, but something must be done...now. I'm sad, scared, and embarrassed.

You know exactly why you gained the weight and you also know exactly what to do to take it off again. Don't be embarrassed...and go see the doctor.

You did great sweetie....and you will again. :D

Yes, what Go Walking said.

The people in the surgery practices have seen and heard it all. Absolutely make an appointment. Go to support group meetings and take part in BP. You'll recover your momentum.

Appt made. Tuesday morning. Told them everything

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
