I would check with your surgical group to see what their recommendations are. In my opinion one month post op is a little early for whiskey. Better safe than sorry.

I'm not a drinker- haven't for 9 years due to the meds I take. But was wondering- DO people drink after having BS? I always thought it was a no-no.

my doctor and nut said alcohol would not hurt me once I am fully healed.

I like whiskey, and I like wine, especially red. but these early months are when I am loosing weight the best and I am not going to waste the carbs in the first 6 months.

I tended to have a drink oh, 2-3 a month - and I cook with wine. Once I am down in my weight it will just have to be factored in to my "carb allowance"

and, practice at home - I sure won't have my first drink in public. I think this will also be my only exception to not drinking while eating. Because it will be a special occasion, I think it's better to have a little food in my tummy.

Talk to your team, see what they recommend based on your personal medical history, medications, and surgery type.

I didn't have alcohol until 6 months out. Warning - it will hit you faster than before!

I waited 3 months. I must admit I don't miss drinking it at all.

If you are over 21 and you aren't driving, you can do a shot of whiskey whenever you want.

I am one month out. I can tolerate one beer just fine. Grain alcohols are a no. I love red wine but haven't tried yet.

Jenlynn - what type of beer did you drink?

I tried beer

Did any of you feel a throat dryness after waking up? This was two beers drank very slowly, and I stirred as much carbonation out of it before I enjoyed them. It was not right before bed, and I sleep on a wedge pillow.

Just curious now if the alcohol in those beers caused the silent reflux? Or if it's something else. But did you experience any negative effects the next day?

I felt not so great, even after two beers. I won't ever drink more than that again.

My doctor gave me the okay to have alcohol, but honestly I can't take it. It makes me sick and I end up throwing up even just having one drink makes me sick.

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.

Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
