Caloric intake @ Stage 2

Recommended Posts

I am 6 weeks post-op and was wondering if i am doing well with my caloric intake. I usually eat about 900-1000 calories a day for the past two weeks. Should I reduce my caloric intake ? I have not lost weight in two weeks and I am thinking this might be the reason. During stage 1 I was eating 500-600 calories a day.

Only your NUT can give you the answer for your program. For me I am at six months out and just checked up with my NUT and she said I am right on target eating between 700&900 calories at this point and that I should stay in this range till I'm closer to a year out.

Everyone's stages are different so I am not sure what you mean by stage 2. I am about 3 weeks out and still on soft foods and I am at about 500 calories. Most of my calories are from Protein shakes right now.

While 1000 might seems high I do have to say if you were not sleeved 1000 would seem very low for your weight and you would be dropping weight. I would definitely ask your Doctor about what your calorie intake should be at 6 weeks.

For me it would be impossible to take in 1000 calories because my food plan is B,L,D 1/4 cup of soft food off of a list of pretty low calorie foods. Typically my food is about 200 calories and then my Protein Shakes make up about 300. I am not allowed to snack or drink anything with calories (other than 4 oz of juice a day). So for me it would be impossible to go over 600 calories on my stage 2. But... everyone is different.

What is stage 2 for you? Mine was full liquids.

Calories are relative and secondary to Protein. What is your Protein target? Are you reaching it every day?

I am also 6-7 weeks out and eating 600-800 calories per day. I still supplement my Protein with 1 shake per day to hit my 60-80gm protein goal. Most days I don't hit 800 calories but I find that I need at least 600-800 calories to be able to keep up with my busy lifestyle (mom of 3 boys). Although I have been told to keep carbs limited, I sometimes find that I loose quicker with a few added carbs. Good carbs. Not sure why but I'm still trying to figure things out. Good luck on your journey.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
