April 12th surgery sleeve/hernia repair

Recommended Posts

So I'm day 3 on my 14 day liquid diet my dr ordered. I'm struggling a bit but so far so good. No cheating yet lol Anyone else have a surgery date soon? What did your DR request before surgery? What did he tell you to expect post surgery? My dr is also doing a hiatel (sp) hernia repair..anyone have one with their sleeve surgery?

Still trying to get the dr to commit to sleeve. I just had an UGI last week to see if I had a hernia which might get him to say yes to the sleeve. ( acid reflux) if he determines that is the cause of my reflux then he will do the sleeve. I do not want the bypass. I restarted this process after starting it 4 years ago. I asked for a second opinion to see if I could get this dr to okay the sleeve. If so , my surgery could be in May. (6 weeks out) Keeping fingers crossed and wishing you well with yours.

Good luck! I started the process in Aug 2015. I had to attend a 3 hour seminar and then my insurance required 7 months of medical weight loss through my surgeon. Feels like I've been waiting forever.

Yes i have a hiatus hernia caused by my band. My what a terrible device the band is. Seems almost everyone ends up with a hernia!

I have surgery date 19th April so start my pre-op phase soon.

Not looking forward to it. Done it before...its tough.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
