3/24 Sleeve buddy wanted

Recommended Posts

Wow, 2-3 miles per day! I get so tired after I'm done teaching! I usually play with my dog in the backyard for about an hour and done for the day. Other than getting so tired I'm ok. It's tough getting in all the Protein and Water, how do you do it in school? I'm sure I'm s bit dehydrated which leads to being so tired all the time.

Hello Opal Chick! Sorry to hear about your other issues but it kind of sounds like my story. I too have a bum hip due to RA and and have to wait a couple more days before I can take my anti inflammatory meds. I think your tiredness has to do with all 3 and by the end of the day I am worn out. I'm looking forward to things getting better, thanks for your words of encouragement!

Hey Meimei - I bought the GNC brand of whey Protein and mix it with my Greek yogurt (banana cream Protein and vanilla yogurt) and it gives me 34g of protein right off the bat - 2.5 oz of tuna is 16g and cottage cheese is 12g for a half a cup - that's over 60g already - I usually have a glass of milk after my workout which gives me 8-10 more grams.

As far as Water - I just keep my water bottle in my hand while I'm walking around the classroom so I'm constantly sipping and getting it in - it has been easier the last couple days.

I'll admit I have been tired after school this week but I just don't let myself sit down until my workout is done - I was cleared for full exercise today yay!!! I did 30 min on the elliptical.

Keep working at it you'll get there- everything hurts a little less each day - I would say I'm 95% back to feeling normal.

Pm me if you want to buddy up :-)

Hey Krissy - I'm drooling over here as I read your post. I'm still on a liquid diet until 4/14!! Can't wait to eat something with more substance.

How does the whey Protein taste? I've heard mixed reviews and have been steered toward Isopure which is tasteless and can be added to anything. I really like my premier Protein shakes and taste like hot chocolate when heated. Maybe I'll try both.

I have my 2 week post op tomorrow and hopefully I'll be cleared for exercise.

Glad to hear you are feeling good. I'm at about 75-80% back to normal, it's just been crazy at school with all the state testing taking place.

Thanks for the great tips, I just have to remember to keep sipping.

Hi meimei. I'm in the same boat as you with the RA. There was research done that shows Bariatric surgery has a positive effect on people with RA. I was diagnosed 9 years ago- right after I turned 40. Went through every drug they had. Finally got some relief from Actemra. Get infused with that in addition to my methotrexate shots weekly along with plaquenil. My weight gain was mostly due to being on 60-80 mg daily of prednisone for 6 years. The worst best drug out there. It was the only thing that allowed me any mobility while trying to find something that helped me. I even ended up allergic to Orencia! That was lovely lol. So between lack of movement and the pred- boom! Obese. Funny thing- I was completely flaring prior to surgery and assumed it would be more of the same after. Not! I've been hitting anywhere from 3-5 miles walking a day. Who knew? I'm not allowed to resume methotrexate or Actemra until 30 days out. Kind of wondering if I will? I suppose the best bet is to have some blood work done to check disease activity level. I don't want to go two steps back, but heck- the thought of no RA meds is certainly appealing!!!!

Hi Lisa! Wow, we are on such similar journeys with RA and all. When did you get sleeved (3/24)?

I was diagnosed about 10 years ago and underwent infusion treatments, with the aid of prednisone and methotrexate. Hated it!! Finally found relief with the use of Humira and plaquenil until about 2 years ago. Switched to a new young and eager to heal Doctor and started using Xeljanz and plaquenil only. She was the one who shared research and encouraged me to have surgery. She feels strongly about the positive statistics and findings.

I have only walked about a mile because I still feel a bit run downed. I'm glad you're feeling good and wouldn't it be AMAZING to not have to go back on your RA meds!!

Please keep me updated on your progress. Good luck!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
