Inner Surfer Girl 12,015 Posted March 30, 2016 Welcome Diamond! Congratulations on deciding to take steps to get healthy. Whatever you decide to do, we are here to help you the best we can. Since your doctor didn't refer you to a surgeon, I would suggest you see if there is a Bariatric Center of Excellence in your area. Once you find one (or two), sign up for one of their free seminars. They can help you determine next steps as well as work with you and your primary Doctor. Since many insurance companies require a doctor supervised "diet" before surgery, you may be able to count what you are doing now with your primary Doctor. But, a good Bariatric surgeon's office can help you figure that out. Where are you located? There may be some folks here who ate in your area who may be able to suggest a good surgeon. DaisyAmy 561 Posted March 31, 2016 I recommend the Beaumont program. They have a dr you can see through the weight loss center that should be able to help you get clearance

amandastearns 79 Posted March 31, 2016 I contracted my surgeon myself. They had me fill out some paperwork to see if I qualified. I would just contact a surgeon and see what you need to do.
Zelda1993 3 Posted March 31, 2016 If all else fails, you can go over the boarder to get it done. That's what I'm doing. I am getting mine done in Tijuana Mexico on April 29th. He is highly recommended and I got approved right away. Of course you need to pay out of pocket for it but the packages include everything except for your plane ticket and food and stay for your guest if you choose to have one. -Surgery Date 4/29/
OutsideMatchInside 10,166 Posted March 31, 2016 (edited) With a high BMI, things are pretty fast with BCBS. You can skip your primary and go directly to a bariatric center. Get the ball rolling with them. You should not have to do a diet. Your BMI and comorbidities should get you approved easily. I went from first visit to surgery in less than 8 weeks with BCBS. missvee 28 Posted April 2, 2016 My primary wasn't supportive, ultimately it's your choice! Once you decide on a surgeon, go back to the primary and let her know what decision you made. It's your life, your choice, they are there to help guide and give suggestions not dictate what you can and can't do! Good luck on this beautiful journey!
