Weight loss prior to post op appointment

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

I had my surgery on 3/22/16. Came out 12lbs heavier due to fluids. Once I came home ????, the lbs began to melt off. Ive gone from 299 to 270 in 9 days. My question is……. Is this too fast or is this normal before the first post op appointment? I still have another week before the appointment. Just want to make sure I'm doing everything correct.

The best advice I can give you is that as long as you are staying hydrated by getting in all of your fluids and are getting in all of your Protein, I wouldn't worry about the numbers on the scale. You are undergoing a tremendous amount of fluctuations right now: fluids, swelling from surgery, healing, hormone fluctuations, etc. Just stay the course and follow your post-op program.

I lost rapidly at first but I also have a lot of Fluid in my legs from lymphedema.

Since you have a follow-up appointment soon they will let you know if you need to deviate from the plan.

Thank you. I wasn't sure what to think at this stage. You hear so many stories and others on their journey. I wasn't sure if I was doing this correctly. I am following the diet stages given.

I was sleeved on 3/24, I still have some swelling and a little bloating. I've only lost 10 lbs. I'm having to 1% milk for my Protein because the shakes make me sick. But I'm a big Water drinker, have been for years. I also have a physical therapist and home health nurse that checks on me as my surgeon requires.

Ok, so you are like me. Scared of losing it too fast and stalling later when its time to really put in the work to lose the weight. I took 3 weeks off to heal and get use to my new way of life.

We all stall. It's not something to be afraid of. None of us lose at a constant or steady rate. Stalls are a normal, natural, and necessary part of the process of losing weight.

Please don't get into the mindset that your rate of loss is something to be micromanaged.

Just follow your program. The rate of loss is something you need to trust to the process.

Embrace the Stall!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
