On my way

Recommended Posts

I am not sure if this post belongs here but I am just looking to get somethings out and this site has always been very helpful and you all seem very understanding.

I have been thinking about weight loss surgery for years now (I worked in a plus size womens clothing store and it felt like everyday I met someone new who had surgery) and I finally think I am ready to go through with it. I have been to a few info seminars to get an idea of what the surgery was all about and to check out a few different doctors. I have also been reading this site for sometime now (thanks for all the great info) I went to my primary doctor this weekend and I am going to make the appointments for my psychiatric evaluation and some other test within the next few weeks so I am now well on my way. I am not close to having a date set but I am still nervous as all heck as I make my way closer to the end. I think my biggest problem right now is I dont have much of a support system to talk about my fears and nervousness with. My family is supportive but they dont understand what its like to be fat all there lives and the one person that I know has my back and understands everything I am dealing with just moved to another country and its not easy not being able to just call and say "I am going crazy" and she would be there in an second. I wont let any of this hold me back because I know I need to do this for MYSELF and no one else but everyday is a struggle one way or the other.

Sorry for the rant and babble! :cry

Jetti, you are not alone. My weight loss surgery experience happend a year and a half ago. I've been banded just over a year. I am considered an average loser at 1 lb per week. I'm down 58 lbs so far. I still shop at Lane Bryant. I started in a size 24 and now am down to a siz 18, 16 on top. I know what you mean about wanting to lose weight for your health. You must see a ton of women who struggle with their weight every day. Use that as a motivator. You will love being banded. Good luck on your journey.

jetti - i admire you for your strength to make the decision to have weight loss surgery despite the seeming lack of support. i feel i am much in your same situation with having a support system, and it is for that reason i simply "lurk" around this page, work to lose weight to the best of my ability, and make excuses for why i don't think the band would be right for me at this point in my life. i still research it, but i have not gone as far as you to take action.

best of luck, and definitely use this page as your support system.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
