Type 2 Diabetes Blood Sugar/ Hypothyroid

Recommended Posts

Hi all. I had surgery in January and my sugars are still high. My doc adjusted my meds a little bit but hasn't taken me off them totally yet. Is anyone else having high sugar issues? My thyroid is off too which may be causing my stall.

Yes, having the same issue. I am off of my fast acting insulin and my Trulicity but I am still having to take my Lantus insulin. I wouldn't say my sugars are extremely high, they are running around 150 or 160 with taking the insulin. I know..it's a bummer still having to be on insulin after surgery. I was hoping this would not be the case for me, Hoping once I lose more weight I can be freed from it but my endo said no promises....

I'm six weeks out and in my second stall.

I was able to come off my diabetes meds immediately after surgery (metformin). My thyroid med actually had to be increased, which seemed odd to me. Then when I got close to goal, it stabilized and had to be lowered to what was in tune with my weight. I guess what crap was in my fat stores was making a difference. It finally leveled out after about 16 months.

I did have many stalls. I was a "step" loser. Lose for a week or so, then stall for 2 or 3 weeks. Would be frustrating - just had to trust the program.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
