It was a little bit of a letdown. The info session was for all types of weight management programs so the info wasn't specific to bariatric surgery. Also, the whole process will take the entire year. I was so hoping there would be some kind of fast track. Anyways, the info session for the bariatric surgery will be May 6th. That'll be the big,min formative one. I'm still excited just wish it were sooner. I want out of this wheelchair!

Jess, hope they can get you scheduled for the May info session!

I am!! I am scheduled for the orientation on May 6th!! I will see you there!!! Oh I am so excited!

The whole takes a year thing is scary, I am wondering if it is a year before surgery or a year after the surgery and all of the counseling. Although I did talk with the other lady Sally on this wall and she said it took her about a year as well!!

I hate your in a wheel chair! Stay strong and positive, we will get there!

I'm so excited that I finally get to meet you on the 6th! We'll both stay strong and get through this together! It's a year from orientation, I think. I hate that time frame but at least we're on our way. Baby steps. Hope we have classes together, too.

So Jess,

How does being on an outer island work? Kaiser flies you in for the day? Transportation, food? All that stuff?

Hey! Yes, they fly me in from Kauai and take care of transportation. Usually I go right back, but I know my classes I may be there longer (because they are trying to group a few together) 1 behavior, 1 exercise and 1 diet class. I'm so anxious! I hope we get classes together!

Aloha Wahine! I am on Maui and have done orientation and now have the GB orientation in May. My question is about loosing weight before surgery. I am a BMI of 38 with chronic pain and autoimmune disease. I am going on a trip in a month so really being restrictive on my diet as we all know those mainland flights are really uncomfortable when you are fat. I already walk 10,000 to 18,000 steps daily with work. Can you loose too much weight and not qualify? I do have a documented seven year history of obesity and up and down weight with Kaiser. Any info would be super helpful.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
