I am on my 4th day post op. I am aloud any liquids i can get through a straw but the first 24 hours were clear liquids. I made chicken noodle Soup and then drained out the noodles which I think is much better than chicken broth out of the can. Also I got a Progresso french onion and strianed out the onion and it was pretty good.

I am talking pre-op - there is no prohibition on carbonated beverages (at least from my doctor) pre-op since the carbonation issues comes into play with the band.

Hang in there. I felt the same way. I was allowed sugar free candy, it helped to add some flavor to the day. I also found that the first 3 days were the worst, then you got into the hang of it. I did about 9 days pre op and 7 post op.

There are no milky, viscous foods like shakes in the Clear Liquids group. That's considered a "full liquid." Though you can hear lots of different diets in here. Some people eat Lean Cuisine and salads in pre and post-op. Not sure if they (or their doctors) call them "clear liquids." :):tt2::crying:

Crystal Lite and Propel. Unfortunately there aren't too many options. If you weren't on a low carb diet before you started liquids you are also probably going through carb withdrawal which is rough. I was on low carb for three weeks prior to liquids and it helped with the transition. I am now three days post op and still on clear liquids. It is getting a little tougher (especially with those damn food commercials on TV) but I can start Protein Shakes tomorrow which should help make things a little easier. Don't worry, hang in there, you will make it. Just pound down as much fluids as you can and it will help you stay full.

Do you have any protien bullets? They are clear flavored protien. You can dilute them in your Water or use them to replace some of your water in Jello. Not delicious, but better than starvation.

I actually went out and got some of these before I thought to ask my surgeon if I could have them. You would think "clear" so they are okay right? Well my doctor said no. Too many calories (175) They want me on almost no calories right before surgery and for four days afterward.

Having said that, there are soooooo many differences between doctor's pre/post surgery diets that I would call them and ask them for directions.

As for me I'm looking forward to Protein shakes!!!!!!!

Try some sugar-free popsicles and herbal tea. That is how I have made it through the day today. So far today I have had 40oz Water, 1 cup raspberry tea, one sf cherry pop, and a strawberry Jello sf snack.

Today is my first day of two on clear liquids after eight days of full liquids only. Becuase I have followed this pre-op diet EXACTLY I am not really hungary, just miss eating.

Best of luck - WE ARE ALMOST THERE!!!!!!!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
