Does anyone ever drink energy drinks? Such as red bull or spark or monsters? I am about to go through my busy/crazy time at work where I work about 60 ish hours a week. I have not tried anyone of these since my surgery. I am 3.5 months out.

Don't get me wrong but I believe any energy drinks aren't safe to drink and can harm your sleeved stomach due to too much caffeine or acidic. Best way to do is drink Protein premier shake so that's what I always drink Protein premier shake all the tim because my work schedule is always being hectic.

Those things always tasted nasty and I saw no point in drinking them; they are pure chemical crap. You're supposed to be looking for more "whole" foods after surgery. I was told if it's something your great-grandparents wouldn't recognize or understand, then you shouldn't be eating/drinking it. ;)

I'd got with green tea or even coffee if you need something with a bit of caffeine in it. At least those are better for you than the absolute nasty crud in energy drinks.

Or try a Protein bar since that would also have some carbs in it for quick energy too.

Unfortunately it is way too soon to reintroduce carbonation and for many carbonation is off limits forever. You could try a caffeine supplement (bodybuilding.com) but if I were you, I would consider B-12 shots.

I still have a 4-pack of Monster Low-carbs that I had prior to my sleeve surgery.......5 months ago.......scared to fool with them.

I shy away from carbonated drinks.

coffee does well for me.

There are so many reasons to stay away from these drinks...

Chemicals...

Sugars...

Carbonation...

All kinds of crap...

Sure, they provide 'energy'...

But so does brown rice...

Or sweet potato...

What about some fruit...

I suspect you probably know all this...

So what do YOU think is the best choice for YOU?

Ultimately, it matters not what anyone here says,,,

You'll do what you want to do...

I hope you make the best decision for you and your sleeve...

I agree they are not the best choice that is why I haven't tried anything other than Water and coffee. I was just curious as if anyone has tried them. I will try the Protein Shakes and see if that helps. I have lost 80 lbs so far and I am not going to do anything to hurt my sleeve. Thanks for the advice.

At 6 months out ... I asked Doc if it was alright to try an energy drink ... he said in moderation was ok ...

So I found Monster Rehab ... they are non carbonated and 10 calories ... I drink one every now and then ( im 9 months out ) and I've felt nothing bad happen to me ...

I also found Monster Muscle ... which is a Protein shake ... 25g for the can ... I drink one of those every now and then ...

But was always honest with Doc 1st ...

I'm a rule follower ... and was scared to try without permission ...

So you should check with Doc 1st ... being that you're not that far out ...

And as others have said ... maybe at this point in your post op ... you're better off with green tea or coffee ...

Hope this helps!

I personally haven't had any of these being at I'm 6 weeks post op. But I do follow many on Instagram and know plenty of barbaric patients that's drink the sugar free options (regularly even). As long as you're getting in 64 oz of Water the day before, day off, and day after. Just stay hydrated because these dehydrate quickly.

I have been doing Spark since 2 weeks post op. My doctor actually has them in his office and recommends them. The are like a Vitamin Water. No carbonation, just Vitamins.

Yeah I would think that so soon after surgery you would want to avoid the carbonation in those Monster Energy drinks. I went with the Atkins coffee Protein shakes that had some caffeine in it early on when I wanted to consume caffeine beverages.

Monster rehab are tea with energy so no carbonation if you need that extra energy kick. They have several flavors too [emoji41]

I did (monster) at 11 months out because I went back to dancing and need it energy, at first it was ok but then came the sugar crash and made me so sick since I hadn't been taking that much bad sugar that I had to stop... All I will say is be carful ... They are bad in any way so it might not be worth it after so soon from surgery!

Good luck!

They're a bad idea in general, whether you're having surgery or not.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
