Recommended Posts

I'm 5'4 260 pounds in have no obesity comorbidities like high blood pressure or diabetes yet thanks to my lord I want to get the vertical sleeve done i can't wrap my head around gastric bypass... but also gastric bypass is the gold standard. .. dont know I don't think I need something so drastic. ..

They are both good, effective surgeries. Which one you choose is a personal decision to make in conjunction with your surgeon. S/he will go through the pros and cons of each surgery s/he performs and make a recommendation, which you are free to take or leave.

Well said. I personally when with the sleeve because I did not want the possible mal absorption issues. But the decision is best made with you and your surgeon

Definitely discuss with your surgeon. You can lose all of your excess weight with both. Your stats don't sound all that bad, so sleeve should easily be an option for you. Some surgeons push bypass for patients with very high BMIs, diabetes, or GERD. If you don't have those concerns, then sleeve will probably be what your surgeon recommends anyway.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
