I like your approach, @@Cape Crooner .

It's not mine, but it seems quite sensible. And more importantly, it's working for you.

I'm 5 weeks out and already can eat pretty much anything and about 1/2 to 3/4 cup at a time. It's a little scary! I ate a whole soft shell taco from Taco Bell yesterday. Didn't feel great after, but I wasn't miserable either. I'm hungry a lot too. Was hoping the hunger and any cravings would be gone with my sleeve - but I guess not. It's a leaning experience for sure.

Okay, I have to ask... at 5 weeks out why would you even TRY to eat anything except Beans or the innards of a meat burrito from taco bell?

If you're hungry, it could be acid. Ask your doctor about a PPI (proton pump inhibitor, like zantac, omeprazole, etc.).

I stick with high protein/low carb. I allow treats on the weekends and holidays. It's a lifestyle change. I don't want to fall back into old habits.

27 months out and maintaining below goal for 18 months. I pretty much eat whatever I want. Heavy on the Protein and veggies; moderate fat, fruit and fiber/whole grains; light on the simple carbs. No tracking or measuring. Just use common sense, make good choices 90% of the time and indulge in total crap the other 10%.....although holidays and vacations are more like 60/40 ;)

I fully agree. If I allow carbs to drift into my daily diet, forget it! I'll just want more. This is particularly true for early in the day.

Cereal or toast for Breakfast, sandwich for lunch, and I'll be hungry all day. Stick to Protein and it's not hard to stay under 1,000 calories.

I had surgery in August but stared working on it the January before. My low is 125, my goal was 140 originally but like being smaller even though I'm old and skin is ugly.

I stay around 126-127 depending on Constipation or not.

At 129 I kick it in gear and really behave for several days. I started worki out at the gym and trainer and started eating more immediately, I assume my body just plain needed it.

I can eat almost anything and I'm still try learning again on how not to over eat. Yes, I worry some about gaining it back because it has always happened prior in my life; however as each month passes and I stay within 3-5 lbs of my low I try to tell myself I can continue to make it work. I make shrink appointments 3-6 month to get my mind working in the right direction and have a gp that specializes in post of gastric surgery and knows how to help you continue in the weight loss journey.

It is what I have to do to make the "tool" surgery work.

Good luck to all.

Good stuff. All on similar paths but some are eating better than others but we all seem to have our trigger to not gain it back ie: so many pounds from goal weight or tight pants etc. I hit my lowest today as have been trying to be more conscious.

I was back on a completely unrestricted diet at 4 weeks. At 6 weeks I was given guidelines on Protein, carb & fat combos but that's it. I'm free to eat whatever I'd like, according to my NUT & surgeon.

Seriously though, I might have a craving as all get out for Taco Bell but I don't dare stop cause I know it's a trigger. I was sleeved on March 1st and struggle with soft foods. My surgeon told me not to go back to purréd or liquids, and to get rid of the Protein shakes as meals, but if it's the only thing that will stay down, it's what I have to do.

Also, realizing as I type this that Taco Bell is a trigger... That means I won't ever eat it again. That sucks and will take some time to accept.

And on that note, I have four trips coming up before mid September. The first is in May, and another in July. I hope to god I'm on at least soft foods comfortably by then.

I am a yr and a half out. I eat anything I want but 4 or five bites and I am full. As long as I make sure I drink my Water I am maintaining. I lost 106 lbs but would like to lose 30 more. I try to eat 4 times a day to keep my metabolism working. I also try not to eat bread. It is just too heavy.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
