I'm new on here. Been thinking of having this surgery for about a year now and I'm just starting the process with my doctor to get approved by my insurance. My question is how long did it take everyone from when they started the process till they actually got the surgery?

Hi I had my gastric sleeve surgery on 2/16 and it took about 4 months in total to my surgery day. If you do all the required tests then insurance approves it fairly quickly.

It will completely depend on your insurance requirements. If they require a 6 month supervised diet, then it will be a while before you can get the ball rolling.

Depends on your insurance (if you are going that route). My insurance, Cigna, required 3 month supervised diet. (Many others, such as Blue Cross, require 6 months supervised diet.) With the 3 month requirement, I saw the surgeon on January 20, went to the "class" required by dr on the 30th. Finished diet and all requirements and insurance go submitted on April 30. Approved the following week but didn't have surgery until June 4 due to some work restrictions. I asked the same question to my dr at my first visit and they said average 5 months given the 3 month diet. Would imagine it could be closer to 7 or 8 months if you have to do the 6 month diet.

Non insurance goes a bit faster but I still had to do all the tests, such as a swallow test, ekg, upper GI, psych evaluation, blood tests plus a sleep apnea exam ( I had it of course). I started in August and was done on the 18th of November, soooo, 3 1/2 months. It seemed like an eternity at the time. It was well worth the aggravation.

I started in May of last year, had 6mo NUT visits, sleep study, failed Psych test (had to add another 3 months of therapy for anxiety and bipolar) just got my surgery approval last Wednesday. When all is said and done it will have taken me a year.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
