foxhound1214 15 Posted March 28, 2016 Alright, time for a real life question. I'm planning bypass or sleeve (not sure which yet) and wondering your bowels habits and how they changed after surgery. Trying to anticipate if I'll have difficulty sitting through meetings at work 2 weeks post op.
JamieLogical 8,713 Posted March 28, 2016 Just 2 weeks post-op, things can be a little unpredictable as you are still healing, still largely on a liquid diet, and possibly still on medication. I didn't have any accidents or issues, but I have read many on here say something like "never trust a fart". I'm sure just like almost everything else, it's different for everyone. For me, if anything, Constipation was more of an issue in the early weeks.
catwoman7 11,221 Posted March 28, 2016 the only problem I've had is with Constipation (although I've learned how to deal with that). I know some folks have diarrhea early on, but I never did.
jordanian sue 6 Posted March 28, 2016 Three months post op. Strange sounds from stomach and intestines every time I drink anything
BigViffer 3,544 Posted March 28, 2016 Never trust a fart. That is the rule to live by, even now over a year out. I used to be like clockwork, 10 - 10:30 BM for me. Now I go once every 3 days! I hate it, so I take a lot of Fiber to stay at least that regular.
Christinamo7 4,042 Posted March 28, 2016 Calcium tends to stop things up for me - so sitting through a meeting would not have been a problem. although, we are drinking, sip sip sip, so visit the bathroom before the meeting and you should be fine.

24601 210 Posted March 28, 2016 All dairy except cheese gives me dumping syndrome. Although I guess that is the stomach emptying too fast, not bowel problems. It sucks though. Hoping it will get better. I never had dairy issues before. Ever.
Djmohr 6,965 Posted March 29, 2016 So I am 18 months out. For the first 2 weeks I had diarrhea and then when I went to puréed foods I became constipated. I literally went a whole week without going. Even now I have to take stool softener with laxative twice daily to stay regular. If that doesn't do it for me I take a third dose. Until I had this surgery I never knew how bad Constipation and it took me a while to figure out how to stay regular. For me, I will be on stool softeners probably forever but seriously the trade off is well worth it. I am down 146lbs and at goal!
foxhound1214 15 Posted March 29, 2016 Thanks guys!!! Glad to hear that Constipation is more of a problem. I'd rather deal with that than the alternative.
Sajijoma 1,324 Posted April 18, 2016 I'm 5 1/2months out, and the only thing I can say really was different was the smell/consistency of my poo especially in the beginning. I only used stool softeners til my first BM and then after that, I chose to be natural and take a preventative approach using Probiotics and later on I added omega-3 capsules to my diet and I'm pretty regular.
