I am planning a trip to Chicago and would like to fly there but will likely only be 4-6 weeks out from surgery Is it safe to fly so soon after surgery?

I flew about 10 weeks after surgery (Minnesota to Atlanta). It was no problem. I don't' know that I heard anything about not flying.

I don't think it is a problem, I flew 4 weeks out. Always check with your surgeon, he/she may have other thoughts!

There are a lot of folks who fly home from Mexico within a few days of surgery so 4-6 weeks should be completely fine.

I say ask the surgeon's office what their policy is regarding that. When I had my surgery planned I learned nearly last minute (arrrgggh) that my mother in law expected us to spend Valentine's weekend at her house. My husband explained that my surgery was 2 weeks prior and I wasn't allowed to travel and there were all these diet restrictions, etc. Didn't care what the excuse was, we had to drive the 200miles each way to do it. I guess my surgeon saw I was less than thrilled about it and decided to take a vacation the week I was scheduled for surgery, forcing me to schedule surgery during a time frame that I wasn't able to travel for any reason. I don't think she has quite forgiven me for not seeing her son when she demanded his presence.

I just flew to Phoenix for Spring training 24 days post op and the only thing my surgeon asked was for me to stand and walk every hour while in the air.

I have a trip planned four weeks after my surgery. As long as I have no complications, the doctor said there is no problem with flying.

Flying dries me out. Make sure you have lots of water!

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
