Dr in Dallas or Irving

Recommended Posts

My surgeon is Dr. Melanie Hafford in Irving (161 & MacArthur). She's new to independent practice, but was teaching bariatric surgery at UT Southwestern before she opened her private practice. She came highly recommended by my rheumatologist. I haven't had the surgery yet, so I can't give a full review. In discussing her techniques and experience, I am very comfortable with her. I'm a nurse, so I ask a lot of questions. She answered all of them without the usual surgeons' attitude.

I first went to True Results in Irving had a horrible experience & wasted my time/gas. They asked me prior to my visit what insurance I had & made my appointment anyway. I arrived & they had me fill out tons of paperwork only to tell me "Sorry we don't except your insurance but you can do cash payment of $10,000!" Walked out! I heard about Dr. Clayton Frenzel made my appointment on 5/13/16 & the ball started rolling fast. Endoscopy, sleep Test, Stress Test all done within a few weeks & my surgery is now set for 7/26/16. His staff have treated me very well & have been welcoming & are awesome.

@@Kevin Morris - I am also going to UTSW. I have completed all of my pre-op requirements and am meeting with the surgeon for my last appointment this week. I LOVE the doctors and staff, but it seems like the process is taking quite a long time because the doctors' schedules are so booked up. Do you remember how long you had to wait after insurance approval to actually have surgery? Thanks!

Dr Cribbins and Ham in Plano. Surgery is done at Baylor Frisco. Not a "clinic" but a private dr office. Best surgeon in the area and the ONLY ones recommended by the top plastic surgeons in the Dallas area

After getting the runaround by most of the other big names in the area I realized that my BCBS plan recommends Hamn/Cribbins. They also do surgery at Plano Presby, which is 5 minutes from my house. I have seen Dr. Hamn (loved him) and done my psych eval. All I need now is for it all to be sent to BCBS for approval.

Does anyone recomend a Dr in Irving or Dallas for me??

Insurance or private pay? I called around to a lot of them and visited a couple before realizing that my insurance recommends certain surgeons and if I go with them it is supposed to go more smoothly as far as approval.

Also, I live in Plano, I love the idea of my surgery being right down the street from my house.

Yes, they do. My insurance sent me to Baylor, coming right up on Thursday. They do all insurance and cash pay. Cash is $13,800 for everything including 2 days in hospital. Cribbins is doing mine and he just did my daughter. As nurses in the area for a long time we knew who to ask. Fantastic office staff!!!!

Dr Nicholson in Plano or Dr Westmoreland in Dallas. Love them both.

Note to self: I don't have to take this day all at once but rather one step, one breath and one moment at a time. I am only one person.

It took probably 6 weeks or so.

I think it depends on the insurance. Tricare waved me right through in just a couple days. Also depends on the doc office. My sleeve was last Thursday at Baylor Frisco by Dr Cribbins. I cannot say enough about this hospital. Dr Cribbins is great!!

Yes Dr Cribbins is going to do mine also. I chose to have it at Presby Plano.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
