I am still in the pre approval process. Looking at the calendar if all goes well I could have surgery as early as June 1. But..... We have a number of camping trips this summer plus my kids go visit their grandmother for a couple weeks and I have 2 major audits at work in June/July. There are 2 opportunities that would give me 2 weeks before a trip or audit ---- is this enough time to be ready to be away from home or busy/stressed at work? I do not stress eat when under pressure at work I tend not to eat when I am swamped. What are your thoughts/experiences? I really want to do surgery while the kids are gone but that's 2 weeks before a camping trip that involves lots of outdoor Water park type activities. How did you handle the hourly "eating" (drinking) on the liquid diets?

My post op is 2 weeks Clear Liquids, 2 weeks full liquids, 2 weeks puréed, 2 weeks soft food.

2 weeks out from surgery, your incisions probably won't be fully healed, so you won't be able to take baths or go swimming. I personally wouldn't go camping 2 weeks out, and from what I've seen here, it's unlikely you'll have the energy. You definitely won't be able to carry heavy equipment. Most of us have to sacrifice something to have this surgery - I typically see a couple friends who live far away in June and we always go out to eat in restaurants, which is just not likely to happen this year given my likely June surgery date - you may have to give up the trip(s) this year...but think about next year when you'll be much healthier and more able to enjoy it.

No advice, but I am in the same boat. There is just never a good time I am afraid. I travel a lot for work, and we vacation a lot through the summer. I am desperately trying to coordinate and schedule for when I can have 4 free weeks to recover......without waiting forever!

Does anyone know how long approval,is good for? I will have a hard time scheduling due to work, but also have my daughters graduation from high school and party to schedule.

Well the trips this year were pre-paid before I made the decision to have surgery. I am not worried about work I can do from home as needed and I do not lift anything or handle machinery. I have an office job. Lots of meetings and computer work. I will never have more than 2 weeks to recover and be ready to face my world. I guess I'll have to deal as it comes. It looks like I'll be able to move my surgery back a week to give me 3 weeks before the camping trip - and we don't rough it we have a camper... I just didn't want to miss out on the lazy river at yogi bear! Lol

So dates are changing some... We have our first trip early June then my kids are going to their grandmothers for a month so I can have my surgery another week to two weeks earlier than I thought will give me three - four weeks before the Water park camping trip. I hope that's enough time cuz I have been looking forward to his trip for a year! We've never been to this place before and we prepaid for the whole thing so we are going whether I can get up and get out or not.

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
