When will by BRAIN catch up?!? Mental Confusion

Recommended Posts

Hello everyone! I was sleeved Oct 2015 and I am now almost 6 months post op and I have lost 58lbs. My goal is 80lbs as of now so I am almost there. I started off as an size 18 refusing to even look at a size 20 and a few days ago I bought a size 12 in old navy jeans when I realized the size 14 jeans that I had gotten a few weeks ago were starting to look baggy! I say all of that to say that even though I almost 60lbs down and have lost 3 pants sizes, when I look in the mirror, my brain doesn't quite register the weight loss. I mean I see some definite changes and I know into a smaller size but it does not look like 60 lbs to me. To me, I guess it looks like maybe 30lbs. I guess I zone in on what parts of my body I need to work on. When did your brain finally catch up with your body?

As posted elsewhere, I'm 13 months in and 230 down and my head is still as screwed up as ever...

I know the weight is gone...

I just don't see it...

I mean, I do...

But not really...

Not like other people do...

I think a lot of it is perspective...

Physical perspective, not mental...

Riddle me this...

We are the ONLY person on the planet that sees ourself from the angle that we do...

Everyone else sees is from front on...

But we don't...

We see from the top down...

Even looking in a mirror, we don't see the same as EVERYONE else...

Now, I dunno what the solution is...

That's for the smart people of the world to sort out...

All I'm saying is...

Well...

I dunno what I'm saying....

Just don't ever forget that when it comes to REALLY seeing ourselves, we're well and truly behind the 8-ball..

I was sleeved in August 2015 and I am in the same boat as you. I am down 70lbs and I am currently sitting between a size 5/6 and a 7/8. I weigh 169lbs.

I still see the 240 pound girl. When I look in the mirror I don't really see much of a difference. I know I have lost the weight, everyone tells me I am going to blow away in the wind, the size of my clothes are smalls.... so I just don't understand why my brain wont catch up. It's a very weird feeling.

So when you find out the magic cure... please let me know. I would love to see myself the way others see me :)

I've lost a bit over 130 pounds in eight months and am now just starting to really see the difference in the mirror. Everyone around me commented how much I've lost, how I'm looking so much better, younger, etc, but I didn't see it. I felt it however, in the lack of pain in joints and my back, my increased activity and mobility, etc. Like everyone else who's commented above, it does take a while for the eyes and brain to really adjust to the new reality. Once you start seeing it, however, it reinforces your desire to keep going!

my brain hasn't caught up.. I still see that fat person looking back at me... At this point I literally have nothing to wear because everything is falling off of me.. I had to breakdown and buy a couple and u mean just a couple of items.. Picked up close and my daughter says mom that's too big on you.. You need a large or medium maybe... Can't seem to accept this almost 60 pound weight loss

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
