sja 38 Posted March 29, 2016 I get so many mixed responses in regards to pain. Some seem to think its a breeze and just feel sore and others are in terrible pain. I had a laprascopic surgery before and really wasn't in much pain at all. My doctor said I was tougher than most and seemed to take it better than average by far so I hope it's a good indicator that it won't be too bad. I have always thought I had a hefty pain tolerance. Broke my arm in a car accident and turned down meds in ER. I don't like narcotics - I used Motrin and ice. I hope this is similar cause if it is I'll be fine Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App This was my first major surgery. I was super nervous but I was determined. I was up walking that day and think it helped a ton! I didn't get a pain pump, but asked for some meds. Surprised at how "easy" it was. My only regret is that I didn't do it two years ago. I'm about 5 weeks out, feeling great and looking forward to more weigh loss. Sounds like you're tough! I think you'll do great! starson2016 5 Posted March 29, 2016 I am getting sleeved tomorrow morning, supposed to stay 1-2 nights- depends on how well I can tolerate fluids. Anyone go home same day? I really don't want to stay at all. I work at a hospital - really don't want to sleep there. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App I stayed one night. I think you will want to. Stacey78 23 Posted March 29, 2016 So I ended up staying. Doc was okay with me going home until he found out I hadn't peed yet (happened to me under general before/kinda expected it) and I had one bout of nausea that resolved quickly with Zofran. I could have pressed the issue to leave but thought it would be better to stay for the IV fluids and nausea meds if I need them. The gas pains go from being pretty bad to almost gone- up and down. I have walked a ton. Was out walking within 5 min of arriving to my room. The nurses have started calling me "a beast" cause they said no one walks that quickly and especially with no pain pump. I don't need help to get out of bed either as the incision sites aren't that sore at all. I did manage to get down some Protein Water, Protein shake, and some plain Water today too. Not as much as I hoped to but about half. Pretty proud of myself and my kick ass pain tolerance. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
TX302 3 Posted March 29, 2016 My surgery was around 11:45 AM, I was at home before 7:00 PM. I had the typical gas pains working through my shoulders for several days, a heating pad and recliner worked wonders for that situation.

kcavender1973 0 Posted March 29, 2016 Jewels 77 I was terrified of surgery and thought of backing out, but I didn't. Day if surgery I had horrible nauseousness. My surgery was Feb 19 and I am so glad I did it. I have lost 32.5 lbs and am off diabetes meds Sent from my LG-H345 using the BariatricPal App

I've had 4 natural births... and a lapariscopic ectopic pregnancy. I was sleeved on the 16th, and it was a breeze. I have a high pain tolerance. Today, I sm 2 weeks post-op, and the only regret I have.... why didn't I do it sooner!!! Sent from my SM-G900V using the BariatricPal App

Stacey78 23 Posted March 30, 2016 Gas pains got me on this one unlike my hysterectomy where I had none. It has required more pain meds and more walking but not intolerable. What doesn't kill us makes us stronger. So glad to be home and on my way to recovering. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
honeybadger 21 Posted March 30, 2016 I'm still pre-op. My biggest fear about the whole procedure is vomiting after surgery. I have this irrational fear of ripping the staples loose.
CarbonFiberA350 4 Posted March 31, 2016 you need to stay at least 18 hours after surgery, i hardly had any pain medication, was walking 1 hour after recovery 7: pm was ready to go home next morning at
Stacey78 23 Posted March 31, 2016 I was terrified to vomit too for that reason. I only had nausea one time- the nurse gave me Zofran and thank goodness it never came back. Just sip very slowly and walk a lot. I was up walking as soon as I got to my room- only way I could get the gas to be tolerable. It's right what they say about each day being a little better than the one before. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
