I will be contacting my Bariatric specialist tomorrow but just wanted to find out if anyone else here has had this issue. My scale has NOT budged since my 2 week post op. appointment. I will be at 5 weeks post op. on Friday, April 1st and I am in the puree phase. I am following my program (both from surgeon and NUT) exactly and the inches are noticeably coming off (YAY) but my scale has not moved-what's up with that????

I get in between 45-50 g Protein a day, only can eat about 2 T of puree at a meal (am eating recommended foods) and am walking about 1 mile per day.

Any thoughts you might have would be great, just wondering if anyone else stalled at this point?

Need to move more would be my 1st guess. Also, your Water intake needs to be right or your weight wont budge (at least thats what I think happens to me).

The scale is just broken.....!!!!

Well....maybe not really....but relax. The science is still there. If you follow the plan the math will play out. X number of calories in and Y number burned....equals Z number of pounds lost. Minus a couple of Water retention hiccups along the way.

You'll lose.....and it will start to come off fast. And it will be noticeable. You didn't put it on overnight and the body is just trying to defend you by hanging on to all it can for now. Get moving doing exercise and motivate the muscle to build while burning away the fat. You'll feel it and see it in how your clothes fit.

Sure, check the scale from time to time....but don't rely on it too much.....Following the plan will get you there in the long run. Read old posts here.....your question is probably the most asked one on here. And all those that asked it went on to reach their goals. YOU will too. Keep it up ..... ;)

It's called a stall. It's normal. It won't be your last. Here's what you do....

1) throw the scale away

2) get more Protein....60-80g or more should be your goal

3) you didn't mention Water intake....it should be 64oz MINIMUM. 80+ would be better

4) go to the "Don't Sweat the Stall Stuff" subforum and read EMBRACE THE STALL thread and every other thread in there.

5) did I mention throw the scale away?

You said it yourself, the inches are coming off. Who cares what the numbers on the stupid scale say?

"Three week stall" -- completely normal, use the little search box in the upper right corner. Virtually everyone experiences it and it does not reflect how well you are following your program. Your body just needs a little break to catch up after trauma. Stay off the scale for a few weeks, keep following your program -- the weight loss will kick back in eventually, but you really can't dictate when, sadly.

More Protein as others have suggested.

Also if you aren't regular, then you won't see the loses on the scale, so use stool softeners if needed.

I second the stool softeners.......but not for weight loss...... whatever you do....don't wait until your bound up......or it will make you welcome death. Really.....all things considered....make SURE you stay regular. Use the stool softeners and keep some Magnesium Citrate on hand just in case.

You all are the best. I really appreciate all of the feedback and comments. I have increased my Protein, increased the exercise I am getting, I'm getting in quite a bit of Water every day so hopefully the next time I get on the scale i will have a pleasant surprise but I've also been ignoring my scale actually I think my husband hid the scale I can't find it lately

Five weeks out and i feel great... i do have questions thought.

1. Are there different sizes of sleeves that are provided? I have 2 co-worker that are many months ahead of me speaking about getting sick, not able to eat much, forgetting to eat, etc... I am hungry, i know when i need and what to eat.I NEVER forget to eat. I alway get in my Protein and Fluid requirements. Could my sleeve be larger than normal? I started with a lower BMI and in 4 weeks I have lost 20 pounds. In week 5 nothing is happening with the weight lost despite now walking 2 -4 mile a day. I this normal?

My NUT said weeks 3-8 are the slowest for weight loss. Wish they'd have told me ahead of time about the stall. For 11 days my scale didn't move. I finally stopped getting on it. Went on vacation for a little over a week and when I got home the numbers finally had dropped. Not by much, but I was happy with anything at that point. Patience!

I'm at the 3 week stall right now myself but I'm not letting the scale get me down. I HAVE noticed a visible difference and clothes are a little looser so I'm continuing with my pureed diet. I get over 60 gr of Protein a day and very little sugar but I think carbs are a little high plus I know I should be drinking even more Water. I'm also walking at least a mile a day (for an old couch potato like me this is a MAJOR accomplishment!).

So I'm going to read that forum about stalls that was suggested and keep on keepin' on!! Oh, and I think I'd better get that stool softener....nuff said!! Thanks for all the advice. :D

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
